Hello everyone! How was your Saturday fellow Mylotters? I had a beautiful day with my Filipina friends visiting the Christmas Market in Cologne.
Our travel with the train for 1 and 1/2 hour to the Köln Hauptbahnhof (Cologne Central Station) was safe and exciting. The Cologne Cathedral and the Christmas Market were (and still is)at the nearby Central station. There are 14 Christmas Markets in Cologne but we only visited this one as we were also visiting the cathedral. The cathedral was almost full of locals and tourists but the Christmas Market was not yet busy when we arrived there at around 11 in the morning.
It was a fun day and also tiresome but we enjoyed our stroll as we had a friend who was our tour guide and who lives nearby the cathedral. We have seen a lot of interesting and beautiful things which are sold in the Christmas market. There was also a band playing Christmas songs. I have taken a lot of photos and videos. I will show some of them later.
My friends and I came home safely and very tired. The weather was not good all the time. Sometimes, it was raining. I hope I am not catching colds as I keep on sneezing since an hour ago.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy your 3rd Advent Sunday. Thanks for reading.

I was fortunate to visit a few Christmas Markets in Belgium and Germany in 2011 - it's such ages ago, but the fondest memories - Gluhwein and chocolates were my favourite as well as the smell of sweet bagels and other treats. I hope to see it one day again because we don't have such great Christmas Markets in SA - I believe the Cologne one is the best to visit. Thanks for sharing

I am glad that you have experienced visiting the Christmas Markets in Belgium and Germany @Inlemay. I would love to have drink Glühwein but I couldn´t as I would not be able to walk after that. I think the best is the Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt but I have not visited it, yet. Colognes Christmas Market is the no.4 on the list of Christmas Markets in Germany as I have learned it from the comment of MALUSE. Thank you for your comment.

@thelme55 The carved bows with candles you see on the upper shelves may come from China nowadays but their origin is in the south east of Germany, in the Erzgebirge (roughly between Dresden and the Czech border). I was born in Saxony and lived there until I was 11 years old. We have all the Christmassy things at home you find in Germany. The pyramids which turn round and round when the candles are burning also come from there. You can often see figures of miners made of wood. The reason is that there are coal mines in the area.
The reason for this is that the area was very poor. In summer the people found work here and there, in winter they stayed at home and made things of wood, toys and Christmas decorations. There is even a Berufsschule for wood carvers in one of the towns.
In Bohemia (now Czech Republic) the situation was similar, but there they made predominantly decorations from glass for Christmas trees.

I've just found a list. The Christmas market in Cologne is No 4 according to size.
1. Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt. ...
2. Dortmunder Weihnachtsmarkt. ...
3. Dresdener Striezelmarkt. ...
4. Weihnachtsmarkt am Kölner Dom. ...
5. Rostocker Weihnachtsmarkt. ...
6. Weihnachtsmarkt Frankfurt. ...
7. Weihnachtsmarkt Stuttgart. ...
8. Weihnachtsmarkt Hamburg.

Btw, the number of Christmas markets in Germany is not quite clear. It is estimated that there are about 2.500.

I’m so happy you enjoyed yourself! I remember Cologne as it were yesterday. I remember that beautiful cathedral, too! We had lunch across the street. However, we were there in June. The only Christmas market I’ve been to was in Salzburg. It was freezing there, but awesome.

Try to come to Germany in December @DianneN to see the Christmas Markets. I am sure the Christmas Market in Salzburg was nice. I remember that there is a shop in Salzburg city which sells Christmas decorations and Easter decorations all through the year. Salzburg is one of the beautiful old places I have been to. Thanks.

It was a bit huge and plenty of stalls from people who are selling Christmas decorations, gifts and food. We only visited one as it was raining so hard in the afternoon so we were not able to go to the other Christmas market at the Rhine River. The other Christmas markets are far from the city. I hope your Christmas party is fine. Thanks @shaggin

I would love to go to a German Christmas market. I think it would be amazing. Sis and mom once went to Germany, but I don't think it was the Christmas season. Maybe if I get China and Italy accomplished, I will put it on my bucket list.

Christmas Market is very common now in England. Some of the German sellers go to London to be a part of the Christmas Market. Yes, it was beautiful @TiarasOceanView. Thank you.
