Smokin' hot this morning, we are. Because this edition of Be One of Us, a random countdown of 50 songs with "of" in the title, is pretty damn smokin' hot! We are at #14: "Bring Me the Head of the Preacher Man" by Siouxsie and the Banshees.
The Biblical "Bring Me the Head of the Preacher Man" was a non-single tune from Siouxsie and the Banshees' brilliant 1984 album, Hyaena. It's the only Banshees studio album to feature The Cure's Robert Smith as a full-time member of the band (he had previously toured with the Banshees as an emergency guitarist, and is the guitarist of record on their 1983 live album, Nocturne.)
On Hyaena, Smith gives "Bring Me the Head of the Preacher Man" a spaghetti western guitar treatment, and the entire "For a Few Dollars More" sound somehow fits Biblical-insipired lyrics (written by bassist Steven Severin) to a tee.
I've linked to a live performance on BBC Television.
