Oh What a Night...

No I am not breaking into song, unfortunately, I have had a rotten night. I live in the UK and it is currently 6.23am, I have been up since 1.05am. I fell asleep downstairs, I was rudely awoken by the sound of very fast dripping, I shot up off of the sofa, switched on the light to find water streaming through the ceiling. I ran upstairs, no, that is a lie, I weaved my way upstairs as I was groggy from sleep, to find the bathroom floor covered in water. My first thought was the water tank in the airing cupboard but it was not that, it was coming out of the back of the toilet due to a loose nut. I tightened the nut up and as simple as that the water stops, but of course water does damage very quickly so I have no idea how this will pan out! I turned off the water supply just while I got a grip on things and in the process knocked off 4 ceramic plant pots that I had pulled out of the cupboard, they all smashed, they landed on one of the cat's plates and broke that. My home looks like I have had a break in right now and my cat's think their world has ended because one of their plates is missing. They are in the kitchen right now discussing whether this means one of them is being given their marching orders! Looks like it is a morning of cleaning for me. Anyone else have any home disasters happen to them recently?

poor kitties and poor you. Hope you have calmed now and gotten it under control again. reminds me of a couple weeks ago when I flushed and panicked as I watched the water raise to the edge of the bowl, but luckily stop there. I knew though that next flush might over flow it so I mentioned they might want to keep the plunger handy and daughter immediately said I use too much toilet paper maybe? which made me mad cause I use minimal as possible. anyway, now the plunger is in there from where ever they had hidden it (weird) and now I am wondering if I have the strength to use it. Luckily it hasn't happened since. I do hope your floor doesn't rot from the damage. Fingers crossed

It is under control for the moment, the leak was coming from the back of the toilet, I figured out that it was because a nut had worked lose, I tightened that up and it stopped. I know I am going to need a plumber at some point, after christmas I expect. I have had the same problem with loo roll, one of my boys always managed to block up the toilet with it. One way I found to solve the problem was to get 2ply and not 3 ply, I never have a blockage with the 2 ply but if i get 3 ply by mistake gauranteed the toilet blocks, does not like thick paper at all!
