Omg! I’m so embarrassed!
I just ran into a nice lady on my floor, whom I’ve had dinner with not once, not twice, but three times and can’t remember her name at all!
She stopped me to chitchat and used my name 4,942 times and asked for my husband by name!
I carried on a nice conversation without mentioning her name once.
I just mentioned it to my husband and all he could say was, “Oh, her.”
He knows who she is, but forgot her name, too.
I better ask someone around here who she is and write her name down fast!

It happens. Some people are better at remembering names than others. I am a forgetful one.

This has happened to me different times, in the store. Jay said it also slips his mind, when people approach him like an old friend! lol

@DianneN When we get alone I ask Jay, 'Honey, why didn't you introduce me?' His reply, 'Because I have no idea who they are or what their name is!'

The same with us! I learned quickly when my husband’s former students stopped to chat, that if he didn’t introduce me, he didn’t know their name. So, it was up to me to stick out my hand and introduce myself and then they gave us their name. Sneaky, but it worked well.

Yes if she knows your name you should know her name. The man three house up is bend over and we forgot his name so we call him the bend over man. I tried to get his name from another neighbor but she called him bend over man to.What should I do.He is in his 90"s and hard of hearing. So I just say hi to him and his wife.

@LadyDuck That has happened so many times with my husband’s lecture hall students. He’s had thousands over the years and barely knew any of them, but they remembered him. When they came to say hello when we were out and about, I learned to put out my hand to shake theirs and introduced myself. My husband still didn’t recognize their names!![](/Content/images/emotes/lol.gif)

I am great at remembering faces, but horrible at remembering names, so I would have probably found myself in the same position as you! And it drives me crazy when I can't remember somebody's name!

I hate it when that happens. I remember the first time it happened. I was in 9th grade. I had this girl in my Home Ec class and couldn't remember her name, but figured the teacher would call on her by name. She didn't. I waited two weeks before I heard her name. I've never forgotten it since. It's happened many times since with various people, but at least I didn't wait too long to remember the name or point-blank ask.
I really hope you found out her name and wrote it down.

That’s some memory you have!
When out and about with my husband and running into his students, most from huge lecture halls, I learned to put out my hand and introduce myself. My husband couldn’t possibly remember thousands of his students.
I will wait until friends arrive after the new year and ask them her name. And write it down!

Yes, you will be sweating bullets until you do. Just think how nice it will be to greet her by name the next time you meet! Maybe you could ask her to text you, and find it out that way..Her text would probably contain her name.Worth a shot!![](/Content/images/emotes/happy.gif)

@snowy22315 Ask her name or phone number or apartment number? The latter two won’t do me any good, and I’m too embarrassed to ask her her name by now.![](/Content/images/emotes/doh.gif)
I think I better avoid her until our friends return.![](/Content/images/emotes/lol.gif)

Ha ha ha
You are not alone. I have had encounters like that and all i can call her is dear.
But when I am with my batchmates, i asked them by describing her and they too can't remember who she is or don't really know her.
Maybe she ia a friend or a client in the bank more than 12 years ago. ![](/Content/images/emotes/lol.gif)

Uh oh! Don't you hate when that happens? If you hadn't had lunch with her, you could ask her; but in this case that would be awkward. Good luck!
