The Story In The Song The Shamen Ebeneezer Goode

With Ebeneezer Scrooge getting so much mention at the moment I thought I would celebrate the other famous chap of a similar name, Ebeneezer Goode, in the controversial song by The Shamen. Goode appears to be a likeable eccentric dandy geezer going to clubs and parties but the song is actually a celebration of Ecstasy pills, or E's, hence the line He's a Goode, He's a good (E's are good). Other references - Vera's are roll up papers for making joints, and a salmon (& Trout) is snout, or tobacco. The line about the great philosopher is quoting Malcolm McDowell in O Lucky Man, and Goode in the video is played by Scottish comedian, Jerry Sadowitz. The 1992 song was originally recorded as electronica but heavily remixed as a dance anthem. Youtube - The Shamen - Ebeneezer Goode Arthur Chappell

Ebeneezer is not a name you hear much of now is it? This is one I had not heard of only on the radio while I was over there expecting my youngest at the time it sounds different somehow.
