Vinyl Junkie

I became a vinyl junkie around 10 or 11 years of age, until the invention of the compact disc, when I became a CD junkie. My adult life has been quite nomadic, and I became weary of hauling all of those vinyl records around, and got rid of them (never mind that I ended up having to haul 2000+ CD's through a few moves.) Since I got into my new apartment, I've been getting cheap stuff as I go along, stuff I can live with for awhile that can always be upgraded down the road. Yesterday, I went to Walmart to get some cold medicine and walked out with a cheap turntable and a Bluetooth speaker (which you see placed on the boxes until the tables I ordered arrive.) Which suits my needs for the time being. This morning, I took the bus down to my all-time favorite Denver record store, Twist & Shout, figuring I could get a couple used albums. Instead, as I browsed, I found a brand new copy of Morphine's 1995 album, Yes. Hipsters have really driven up the price of vinyl. With tax, $38 and change. I used to pay less for imports! However, this is a reissue from Rhino Records, who turned it into a double album, with sides three and four consisting of bonus B-Sides and live tracks. I would have bought this at some point regardless. I forced myself to stop browsing, buy it, and got the hell out of there before I found more. Ah, the sheer joy of putting a new record on a turntable and listening to the entire album without skipping around. I'm back in the club!

@dgobucks226 Vinyl just sounds better. You have to be "hip" to know that.

I'd like to find Youthquake. I had it on vinyl in the 80's.

Yeah, you guys are a little far, the fact that I use public transportation making it even more so.

Sweet. I have Morphine's "Cure for Pain." Good stuff. I still have my AR ES-1 table (and an older AR as well) and all of my albums.

We still have a heap of vinyl and a turntable somewhere but never use it. Maybe I should dig them out and have a listen again.

I would love to be a vinyl junkie but we relocated several times and somehow my record collection got lost. I can't afford to create another one. So all I have are my memories.
