When I started these two countdowns of songs with “love” in the title, a “treat” (ha ha) for Valentines Day, I said they were the most difficult countdowns I’d ever done. You think of the millions of songs that have “love” in the title, then to narrow that down to 45....then, from those 45, pick the ten best for the forthcoming “top ten” list to close these countdowns out. Case in point: this song.
Modern Love - David Bowie
If I had gone with my original idea of counting down the top 14 from February 1-14 this would have been on that list. You could say that, if I had to put these in order, this would probably be #11 on the list.
Dang, what a song. The success of this and its parent album (Let’s Dance) shows that David Bowie could re-invent himself repeatedly to stay with — in most cases, ahead — of music trends.
