Carnivore, omnivore or vegetarian?

This may be a little controversial but I freely admit that I am a committed carnivore! Although I do eat up all my veggies they have to be accompanied by some kind of meat. That, of course, actually makes me an omnivore - which is what the human race has been for most of its existence. There is no way I could be vegetarian or vegan. Although I respect the choice of those who have gone down that route it just isn't for me!

@paigea I once went fishing on a remote loch in the highlands. We were catching small trout by the dozen and they went from swimming in the loch to frying in a pan in about three minutes - you can't get much fresher than that! They were delicious fried in butter.

I like chicken. I could do without red meat totally if necessary. I hardly ever have any red meat. I don't know if I could be a vegan.

I have always been an omnivore, and enjoyed both meat, dairy, and vegetables . Because of being overweight, I have followed a low-carb (Atkins) type of diet for the last few years.
I lost weight and then gained it back this year, a lot because of the covid lockdown.
Anyway, I have been reading a book by Dr. McDougall called “The Starch Solution”, which is a whole food plant-based way of eating, and I have decided to do that.
I have missed being able to enjoy things like sandwiches with regular buns, starchy veggies like potatoes, fruits, and just a lot of the food that is off-limit on a keto or low carb diet.
I think that we waste a lot of acreage when growing and feeding livestock, that could be used to produce food for people (grains, veggies, etc) instead of pasturing cattle and feeding them most of the oats and corn that we grow.
So, even though it is not likely to happen, I think that the earth would be better off if people were vegan , or at least vegetarian.
Animals are seriously abused when they are being raised for food, kept in small cages or corrals, and given antibiotics to keep them alive long enough to grow them big enough to eat. Those antibiotics and growth hormones are then taken in by us when we eat the animal, which is bad for humans, too.

@ScotMac , I like meat, too, and have eaten it all my life. However, the meat that we buy at the stores that has come from commercial food processing plants, is far different from the meat that a farmer got when he butchered his steer in the fall.
Much of our food is either brought here from China, or the company is owned by China, such as our largest pork processing plant, Smithfield, has been owned by China for some time now. Even catfish, which has been locally grown here in the southern US, is now shipped in from other countries where they are raised in cages, and fed chicken droppings.
Not what I want to eat !

I wonder what a person who must have pasties is called? A past-atarian?
