Coffee Thoughts

Happy Wednesday Everyone! the sun is shining and we have snow flurries this morning. It looks pretty but I'm still not a fan of winter. Why I haven't moved to a warmer state is beyond me. I went from living in New York my whole life until 9 years ago when I moved to Pennsylvania. You would have thought, after going to all the trouble of packing and moving, I would have gone somewhere warmer. When I moved here I said this was my last move. The whole ordeal was overwhelming but here I am 9 years later and thinking maybe another move will happen before I kick the bucket. I love my house, I love my surrounding countryside and town and I have good neighbors. My children are close enough to visit and I'm happily retired. Why do I occasionally think about moving? It's not necessarily the weather even though today it brings it to mind. I would love a house all on one floor with no stairs. Just the idea of being able to go to bed at night without having to climb stairs would be ideal. Or not having to go up stairs during the day when I need something or have to clean etc. Anyway, I'm getting of track and don't want to go off on tangent here. The one thing I won't complain about today is the coffee is only a few steps away (no stairs) and I am on my way to pour that first cup of my "life serum" Have a good day everyone! Do you ever daydream about moving?

With your poor knees, a one floor home or condo would be much better. Our condo in Florida is all on one floor. We have an elevator right outside our door, but as long as we are healthy, we use the stairs whenever we can. My husband loves our large house in Connecticut, and told me he prefers to stay put, even if our younger son moves to Boston. We are between NYC and Boston, so can pop by to visit the kids any time. Plus, he loves our 2+ acres. It’s very valuable land in our town. Don’t laugh, but he still wants to buy a studio apartment in Manhattan. All I seem to do these days is try to talk him out of that and buying a boat. I’m very blessed to be able to live in Florida where it’s sunny and warm and not a drop of snow, as well as to be able to enjoy our large, rambling home up north. My offer still stands. Your room down here is waiting for you! Just give me a heads up. The kids, my nephew, and friends are coming to visit!

Maybe buying (or renting) in Florida for a few winter months might be an alternative. I never say never so you might be picking me up at the airport one of these days. I think the two of us would get into a lot of trouble together You have your hands full just talking your husband out of the apt and boat.

@Marilynda1225 Renting was our initial plan, but this place just fell into our laps. We are so close to the airport - under 15 minutes, so give a holler or PM me. Oh, the trouble we would get into! Yes, my throat is getting raw from that man!

Yes, all the time. I feel trapped here in many ways. I had planned to put my house on the market this spring..but ran into an unexpected monkey wrench..which always seems to happen. I am not going to rule it out..but other things will probably have to be attened to first.

@Marilynda1225 Thanks, well I really want to, but I have to admit part of me is afraid to, but also sometimes other things need to come first anyway..like dental work for instance. So, we will keep working on it.

I know you've talked about moving and I'm sorry it hasn't worked out yet. Maybe down the road everything will come together for you

Good morning. Its funny that you talked about moving. Just last night my husband and I were talking about that too. We agreed that we would prefer to stay put, in this big, busy city until we retire, and then move to a neighbouring town. We even found a nice senior's community that they have and are in construction to double. They have connected townhouses that are all on 1 floor. They are lovely homes. Hopefully our mattress and couch will hold out until we retire and then we can dispose of those and order new for the new location as we did for here. But until we retire......we live in this big, busy and often noisy city.

@Marilynda1225 That is a sensitive subject, I would like to work as long as my health holds out and I would love to work until I am 67. I only ever worked part time so I do not have the investments that my husband does. He wants us to retire at 60, but I am really doing my best to keep him in the workforce for a few years after that. The neighbourhood that we looked at online is beautiful. They have a hall with a community room and a pool and exercise room in it. They have groups that meet there to play cards, shuffleboard, do crafts and things like that, and they host seasonal parties and barbeques. I like the aspect of some activities and that everyone is a senior as everyone will be watching out for each other.

When I moved here I left all that city hustle, bustle and noise behind. Life here is quiet and I love the slower pace. I don't live in a senior community but it's very similar. My end of the block is us old foggies while the younger families live up the block and around the community. I like the sound of children playing so it's fun hearing them outside and I get no complaints when my grandchildren visit and we send them outside to play. How many years do you have before you retire?

I keep thinking of moving somewhere warmer also. I dont mind stairs, in fact they are good exercise and I am trying to take weight off. But we dont have any. Glad the coffee is good. My tea this morning was too.

I have never moved out of this area where I was raised in - same with Hubby. We have our own house, but we often think back and forth whether we stay here for the long run . . . it is a teeny house, but at the best price considering the housing market is nuts right now. We dream of living somewhere more spacious and country-like!

Since I've been on my own I've only lived on a second floor when I lived in an apartment but that was decades ago. Most house here are single story unless you're rich enough to afford those higher end homes. Moving is one thing I do NOT consider. The weather here is mild compared to the kinds of winters you get up yonder but sometimes the summer heat can take a toll.

Oh yeah! I know I will move again, maybe several times before I stay put. BUT like you I would want a single story house, a little smaller than I have now.

My late husband and I always wanted to move to Austin, Texas. Once we got here we both agreed we would die here. He left me on December 1st, 2019. Now I'm waiting for my turn. I'm not going anywhere again. The Russians and the Iranians will have to invade and kick me out!

I love it here with the roos outside, etc but maintenance and cleaning are getting harder and harder. At least I don't have stairs to negotiate.

Yes i am thinking sometimes about moving. I think i have enough years to live alone. But i don't have a job so i can onlyto dream about it. Some new small appartment would be good for me. Appartment need to be on quiet place around trees. I would like to have a small terrace with some nice view. I would like to sitting at terrace.
