I have a paper due in just over a weeks time. I need to investigate the history of one word in 700-800 words). I am stuck on what word to use. It needs to be a medical term so please everyone if you have heard of or know any interesting medical terms please post them here to give me some ideas.

Maybe use the flu because it is a very common word and also people are getting the flu vaccine this time of year. That is just my suggestion.

Which type of cancer though? It needs to be a specific word that I can parse (break down) to it's. Or perhaps I could do oncogene which is the gene that contributes to cancer. Thankyou for your suggestion.
