When American rock artist Chubby Checker released his song The Twist in 1960, it surprised many that it would be responsible for a dance craze that would sweep the world in the early 1960s.
The dance had existed since the late 1950s. Chubby Checker released his single in 1960 and it eventually claimed the top spot on September 19, 1960.
Over the next two years, the craze took hold, and the song emerged as a number #1 again on January 13, 1962.
I remember my Dad said he played this song in his band. He said they got a lot of requests for the song He always played guitar. Cool memories.

I remember when the Twist became popular and it was a fun dance. I'm dating myself when I say I twisted to that song many times

Chubby came back with a sequel: Let's twist again like we did last summer.
