I just read an article where 1 in 5 of the parents surveyed said their kids spend too much time online.

My kids are too young to get onto the internet. But I was wondering your thoughts on this. How much time online do you think is accepted for children?

I think that depends on the child.
My children range in ages. I have 3 teens and a set of 4 that I call the babies.
The babies do not go online. And if they ever do, it is with one of the teens...and the time is limited. I want the babies to learn to do other things before being sucked into the World Wide Web.
My teens are a different matter.
School work always comes first! I don't even want them to think about checking Myspace, email, or myLot if they have homework, studying, or a book they are to read.
My daughter loves to go online! But she is so driven in school, she hardly goes online. So on the weekends, when I know that she is done studying/reading/researching, I will allow her to go online. This gives her a break. There have been times that I have told her to take a break to check her myspace or online. She will stress herself out so much...I had to take the line from Shining...All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy.
And when I use the term dull to her...I not only mean personality because she is so stressed and worn out...but I also mean that her mind will be dull with fatigue.
So, she plays on it as much as she needs.
My two boys however, it takes a hot branding iron to get them to do homework or read. But they looooooove going online!
So they do not get to go on as often because I use it as a reward. You give me one solid hour of reading...and I will let you go on Neopets! And if they are not reading, then I can just ask them, "So you really don't want to go on Neopets?" They read!
Now, it is also critical for teens to go online today.
Keep that in mind....the more they are online, they more they learn to navigate and the tricks here and there. This is essential for the world we are turning into! But at the same time, I am right here with them monitoring what they are doing and where they are going. Thus, I have my own myspace account to better comprehend and keep an eye on them.
Note: That is why I love my laptop...I can be in the same room while they are online playing right along with them on the other two computers. :)

LMAO
Hmmm...that is a good question. During school days, accumulative an hour a week. But weekends, probably about 8 hours total.
Sorry for getting your hopes up on giving me competition. :)
That is a true compliment. Thanks!
