Yesterday our company had organized to do some help in evacuation centers in Batangas where the evacuees are staying. Ours was not the usual goods that we delivered but more of a psychological first aid for them and some entertainment for the children to release some tension they are experiencing from their place. I was not fortunate to be able to come with them since I was busy in other matters in the office. They said that the people welcome their presence in there. Today there is another mission they are conducting for tomorrow again where we will be delivering some items they badly needed.

but I noticed the Filipinos resiliency regarding event like this. While they were interviewed they were smiling and enthusiastically tell their experiences.

Oh that is true with us Filipinos. Just a few of them are really affected emotionally most do keep it on themselves but at times they need to unburden those feelings out else they may affect their well being. There are advantages and disadvatages to being that resilient. They need to really have to released those tensions in their mind to be able to live normally again.

Wow, that is another kind of assistance to give - entertainment. For sure they need that to relieve the stress not only of the evacuees but also of the social workers and even the cops in the evacuation centers.

@Alexandoy Yes they will definitely be disrupted since most of them are from another town. They will definitely be affected by this eruption. Even in those places that were not affected much but became evacuation centers their schooling is affected as well since the school cannot operate as regular classrooms right now.

Yeah I think they also need that too. Ours was especially directed towards children at the center. We provided story telling activities and some to coloring to allow them play time too to relax.

@rsa101 the children gets the priority, of course. But a question in my mind is about the schooling of those children.

That is true the magnitude of it is really big. I just had read a deped report that schools affected where not only in Batangas but in neighboring Laguna, Cavite and the Southern part of Metro Manila are affected by it. Though the concentration is in Batangas right now since they are the ones that got the brunt of the ash fall and earthquakes. What you donated will be useful for them and at least you may have help at least 1 family or more depending on how many you've given.

Good and tiring on our part. Many of those that came in yesterday were really tired physically but felt satisfied that they were able to help those in the evacuation camps.

@amitkokiladitya That is true especially those people that are displaced by it. Just hoping that it will be over now and they will be able to go back to their normal lives again. But basing from the observations the volcano is still rumbling from the inside signs that there might be an impending major eruption. What happened was just the initial explosion and not yet the major eruption.

Yeah sometimes it has its good points and bad as well. I think the volcano already calmed down the past few weeks. They are still spewing ashes from time to time signs that they are still active from below. Damage to property is really staggering as most of the nearby towns were all covered in ashes and some structure even gave in after the ashes have weigh them down. Those living on the island volcano has nothing to expect anymore since everything is destroyed already.

@Writingghost That is true.... So far the situation is much more calmer and hoping it would continue on in the coming days. Some of the evacuees have already returned back to their homes if they still have a home to have since most of the houses near the volcano were buried by the ashfall.

It is good that people are willing to help each other. Sometimes it takes a disaster to do that. @passionatepanda (I see you didn't stop last night. You kept exploring. Well done!)

We all are a part of this disaster. To do nothing would have been callous. But I am unable to join in such relief missions. I did donate money at the SVD, and they too had their share of suffering, the seminarians cowering from the ash and evacuating to QC for the time being. I did clean my extra house for a family devastated by the Taal. The family has not arrived but I'm giving it rent free. It's all I can offer.

I think we have roles in this in out own simple way. I know everyone is giving time to do their share in the relief effort in some ways some direct and some indirect.

@rsa101 That is correct. Although I think there is negligence on my part, as I think about it now, that I did not send messages to friends in Batangas who, I know, are also affected. My friends there are rich and capable. But of course, I know that I should have send a simple 'Kumusta na.' I will do so in a while.

We are hoping for that too. But volcanologist are saying that there is still a lot of underground activity happening since the earthquakes are still frequent and some places were permanently blocked and inaccessible as a safety measure for the residents.

@thelme55 Well Yolanda was a unique case since it was a first for us to have meet such destruction and devastation. With regards to the distribution I think there was a lot of transportation made there but the distance to transport there took some time before it reached the place. In Batangas they are lucky Manila is just a stone throw away.

So far there are many actually sending help. The roads towards the place where evacuation center are located actually congested because there are lots of trucks and various kinds of vehicles having the relief goods are flocking to the place. I just hope that this will end now so everyone can go back to their normal lives.

@rsa101 I see that there is plenty of help there compared to the time of Yolanda where some food and clothing were not given by some government corrupt officials.

It's kind of hard to do since you have to really pool all resources to provide them their needs but at least we were able to fulfill at least a day of assistance to them.
