Hmmm, where to start?! Ellie belonged to my Mum. Ellie's daughter Sox died around 18 months ago. In the summer of last year Ellie went missing for a full week..and being 16 at the time, Mum thought the worst. Fortunately, Ellie came trundling up to her in the garden as if to say, "Well, I'm back now, you gonna feed me or what?" in her usual, beautiful, friendly self.
Thinking about that now (Ellie died overnight in Mum's house, in a box..she loved boxes) I'm starting to realise that last year she wasn't ready to die. She knew that Mum needed her and Ellie needed Mum, so it was a win-win all round.
Ellie touched so many people. She was a very eccentric cat, fun to be with and she never, EVER scratched anybody.
I don't know what else to say and I'm sorry it's upsetting news but I just had to get it off my chest what I'm feeling.

Oh, Janey, so sad. How's your Mum? And your own kitty?

I don't have a cat of my own. The only cats I knew were at Mum's and now she doesn't have them either. Mum is feeling better (now has a cold) but she does have her 'moments' which is understandable, considering the length of time she had her. Her neighbour kindly took her to another vets and she will be receiving a little box with ashes in in due course. No doubt she will find a lovely sunny spot for it.

I know..it's upsetting. She did have a wonderful life, however..just like all the cats Mum has had throughout her life. She's been in the same house since 1969 (and it looks lovely now..with a garden and such-like) and I never remember it without a cat..or cats. I don't know if Mum will adjust to not having a cat around but she told me she's 73 and a new cat will probably outlive her (but don't tell her that) lol.

@Janey1966 The reason why we do not get a cat is that my husband is 74. Should I be alone I think I will move to a smaller place, a cat could suffer and it could be a problem to find an apartment where to keep the cat inside. I am glad that the cats of my neighbors come to visit, I have combed one this morning, he was so happy and purred all the time.

Thank you. Mum told me that the only thing 'wrong' with Ellie when she finally turned up was that she was covered in cobwebs! Heaven knows where she'd been but you're right..Mum was soo relieved she turned up..and she'd been thinking about her at that moment too. I reckon my Dad 'returned her' and told her she's not ready to leave Mum yet.
