No surprises today on either side of the dual countdown of songs with “love” in the title. My favorite singer takes up the country side, and for today’s rock song, here’s a favorite I’ve used a few times before. Givin’ It Up for Your Love - Delbert McClinton Man, doesn’t this song sound like it belonged in The Blues Brothers? Delbert McClinton is a true legend in the world of Texas/red dirt/Americana music (he’s even received a lifetime achievement from the Americana Music Association), but as a singer, this was his only hit. The sort of ironic thing is that McClinton, noted as a songwriter (he wrote Emmylou Harris’ hit “Two More Bottles of Wine”), didn’t write his only top 40 excursion! That’s okay. McClinton’s soulful, bluesy performance was perfect for this song. The title says givin’ it up, so I’m thinking he gave up a career in computers, trading IT for love.

@FourWalls no one trades IT for love. Those of us in IT, love IT! I think he gave up singing songs!~

@DocAndersen — he actually won a Grammy today for his most recent album. He just gave up being “popular.”

For some reason, the 70s "sound" of this song reminded me of Delaney & Bonnie. No consideration for "Never Ending Song of Love"?

Plenty of consideration, just didn’t have enough days in the countdown. I can’t emphasize how hard this one was. Consider all the songs with “love” in the title, then pick 45.
