Idea for a soft science fiction novel

Scientists try to solve the overpopulation/world hunger crises by shrinking everyone in the world down to a few inches tall. Somehow, it works. Now people must learn how to live in a world where even their own houses seem like vast cities. I feel like this concept might have been explored already, but even if it has, I still kinda want to write it myself. Your thoughts?

I'm confused, since when do scientists ever try to shrink the human race? That makes no sense to me. Now if someone is writing a fiction book about tiny people that would be a whole nother ball of wax.

That's why the title of this topic is "Idea for a soft science fiction novel" instead of "idea for a real thing that could totally happen."

Thanks for the input. Maybe watching this movie will give me some ideas for my novel.

@PeachieMew How about a miniature detective - he could specialise in small-time crooks!

I think there are lots of articles, books already on that topic. Try doing something something very unique and in which people will find interesting.
