Wow, what a shocking Sunday, huh? I’m not a basketball fan, but Kobe was one of those few sports figures who transcended his sport. We forge on, and sometimes the best way to do that is through music. Here’s a happy, cheery song from the list of favorites that have “love” in the title.
Stairway of Love - Marty Robbins
Eddie Kirk here, and Ray Conniff jubilee coming up in just a few moments. I call it a jubilee. Actually, it's a Ray Conniff featurette. Three, maybe four, back-to-back Ray Conniff classics.
(From Good Morning Vietnam)
Sometimes you’ll listen to something that’s decades old and think to yourself, ”WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING????”
Welcome to “sometimes.” The experiment here, perpetrated by who knows who (who hopefully met a slow death listening to “I’ve Never Been to Me” on a nonstop loop) was to take “Mr. Teardrop,” Marty Robbins, a hardcore country singer, and let Mitch Miller produce him.
With Ray Conniff doing the backing vocals and orchestration!
The B side (“Just Married”) is much better. And, while this sounds rather hokey now, we had the 45 in the house when I was a kid, so I grew up with this.
Here you will see an example of the fact that the cream of talent will always rise to the top.....no matter how much crap you weigh it down with.

That is the unlikeliest combination. What next? The Louvin Bros produced a Led Zep track?

Don Henley did a Louvin Brothers song, that’s about as close as I can get you. Although I did see John Paul Jones playing mandolin with the Dave Rawlings Band.....

"And our sources tell us that the 8th Infantry is moving out today. Here's a few Ray Conniff tunes to fire you up as you head into battle. Hooah!"

Did you notice that Marty Robbins looks like Tim Allen on the cover of that album?
