Down to the final dozen, and at this rate, Be One of Us, a random countdown of 50 songs with "of" in the title, might just be finished in about a dozen years. We are at #12: "Arcs of Light and Dew" by Levitation.
Yeah, I know, you don't know this, never heard of them, etc. British alternative guitar-based rock bands were all the rage in the 1990's, and the criminally underrated Levitation was one of them. Levitation formed in London in 1990 after guitarist Terry Bickers left The House of Love. Suffering from depression, a fondness for conspiracy theories and a habit of making bizarre statements to the press, Bickers left Levitation in 1993 (he announced his departure onstage,) and the band lasted just one more year (Bickers and House of Love leader Guy Chadwick eventually made up and have since released two more House of Love albums together.)
But damn, were these guys good while it lasted! "Arcs of Light and Dew" is from Levitation's 1992 debut album, Need for Not, and captures the band in all of their psychedelic alternative guitar rock glory.
Never mind that they were kicked off a tour with Transvision Vamp because they had "Too much equipment onstage," and kicked off a tour with The Fall (after just three shows!,) with that band's leader, Mark E. Smith, calling them "A bunch of #$&@*%! poofs" because they took lengthy soundchecks and used too much dry ice onstage.
Never mind all that. Levitation was bloody awesome! You can quote me on that!

You're right, I didn't know of them. Bickers sounds like an interesting fellow. I wonder about his conspiracy theories and odd statements to the press

Yeah. I've never actually heard any of them, I just know that he flaked out on The House of Love for some weird reason before Levitation. Talented guy, though.

They sound like something you would hear at a rave back then.

Kind of fits in with the whole 90's Stone Roses-era British trippy guitar pop band thing.
