Hopefully you've seen the escapades of fellow myLotter (and fellow Louisvillian) @LoriAMoore when she went to Cozumel and had the thrill of a lifetime, swimming with dolphins. It looks like myLot has gone to the dolphins! (And no, not the Miami Dolphins, although I'm sure we could scarf up a football team to beat them, even with Uncle Joe, Great Martin, and Fredo on our team!!! ) While going through some old pictures to make a collage for my aunt for her upcoming 80th birthday I found a photo of my dear mother of blessed memory and me....playing with dolphins! I was watching home movies last night, and one of them was our vacation to Florida in 1965. There's footage of my brother holding the fin of a dolphin as it pulls the boat along. Additionally, this was the place where the animal stars of the TV series Flipper was housed and trained, so there's footage of my brother shaking the hand of one of dolphins who played "him." (Yes, folk, gender issues aren't new: Flipper was played by a series of female dolphins.) The last time I was in Florida was in 2008 for a trivia party in Tampa. I went to Clearwater and took a boat ride out of the channel into the opening of the Gulf of Mexico. Guess who accompanied the boats as we rode along? Yep, a school of dolphins!! There are a lot of places in the warm climates (such as Florida and Cozumel) where you can enjoy spending time with dolphins, doing things like feeding them (as my mom and I were doing), swimming with them (as Lori did), or just enjoying their intelligence as they show off the tricks they've been taught to do!

very nice of you to call out the picture! There are dolphins in the Chesapeake bay, the first time in more than 40 years!

For as much diversity of creatures that grace the coast here in central Oregon, Dolphins are not one of the regulars that we get to see. The ones that do occasionally grace our viewing areas, they are chasing herring or some other baitfish towards the "safety" of shallow waters. But I have seen them off the coast of Texas on several occasions.

We have them here also at some tourist spots. They are definitely a huge attraction
