Ever Have Stinking Thinking

Many probably consider me to be an over thinker. I analyze all situations probably more than I should. It is just who I am.
But I have learned over the years this is not always good. Sometimes I wake up finding myself doing the stinking thinking (as I call it) again. Most of the time nothing I can do about what I am thinking about. But I continue.
I have tried different types of deep breathing exercises and meditation. That helps me a lot. Trying to re-train my brain to a different place I suppose.
Doesn't always work but sometimes it does. It is worth the effort.
Anyone ever have this problem in life? If so, what do you do about it, if anything?

Over burdening your brains seems to be unhealthy. What you're doing is right like deep breathing and meditating. Keep it up.

@CarolDM Sometimes when I face a tough problem,I get nervous. In such a situation I immediately recollect myself and start dealing with the problem as if it is very easy to be solved. This strategy works wonders.

@CarolDM I'm so sorry to learn this about you. I am also sorry that I do not have any answers as I haven't been taught any techniques. Well no let me take that back, I'm been taught very little. I'm not really seeing psychologists anymore due to governments cutting back funding for people who need support ( people with depression like myself etc ) and the psychologist I was seeing sadly has cancer and is no longer working.
If I remember correctly, one counsellor in training gave me a little technique where you write down one of your worries, next to it you write down evidence of why you should worry and evidence of why you shouldn't. I do apologise if I have this all wrong as this was years ago.
What I can tell you is yes, I do this A LOT. I've been doing this since a very young girl but it's more an OCD thing but technically that's all about worrying and stressing about things that have happened, might happen or haven't happened at all. And nowadays, due to being hurt physically and emotionally over the years, I suffer badly with anxiety. Having very little trust with people and it's like I almost always assume hurt is coming to me by people so I overthink and over analyse over things that a non-sufferer would simply see as being alright.
I am just sorry you deal with this. You're not alone. I wish I could take it all away from you because I know it's a horrible thing to deal with. I honestly wish you the best and I wish I had something that could actually help you but I'm afraid I don't.

@CarolDM Your comment made me feel really good so thank you too! And you're very welcome! But I still feel rather helpless. I know that many suffer from so many different things such as anxiety but every time I see someone suffering with anything, I want to help them. Even though I know there is nothing I can do most of the time. But what I will say is that I'm honestly here for you if need me. I won't have all the answers but I am here if ever you feel the need to vent.
I've been suffering with a few things since a very little girl and I guess it all comes under depression. Maybe, I'm not sure but anxiety is so hard. It can make you over think something that has happened or make you sick to the stomach worrying over something we don't even have proof over happening. It's so horrible.
*really big hugs to you* and I hope you're feeling better!

You are very kind Danielle. I have been this way my entire life. Sometimes you just need to vent I guess. I try different things that work. And I know many people go through this. I so appreciate you reading and taking the time to comment. You are very kind and compassionate. And I needed that today. Thank you.

My sign is Virgo and one of those horoscope traits is being analytical. So, it seems that characteristic is true at least with me. You've heard the term paralysis by analysis?

@CarolDM Being so analytical can be very stressful can't it. Your so concerned about making the right decision.

Well, being alone I have my moments it all depends on what comes to mind. I either blast some music or watch something I like or I give myself a pep talk and tell myself to shape up

Oh, yes. I'm an over-analyzer; and if there is a problem, fear not! I will be the one to take over the worry for you. I try to block it out; but sometimes I"m not successful.

I'm definitely an overthinker too. I also try to get my mind off of the negative by purposely doing something completely different. Something I actually have to focus on, like driving to the store, watching a funny video, calling a friend, etc.

As to the stinking thinking.... I think I first heard this back in the 1970's from a sales consultant named Zig Zigglar, Honestly, I do not know if that was his real name but the term applies to any thinking that is counterproductive to where we want to be headed.
I have a suggestion on changing thinking patterns though. A couple of decades ago, I was deep into a depression that appeared to be unbreakable. I caught myself in a pattern of negative thoughts that repeated almost every few hours, To break it, and I do not remember where I got the idea, but I put a rubber band on my wrist. Every time I found myself thinking one of those negative thoughts I gave it a little pop. Just enough for a bit of a sting. (NOT SO HARD AS TO RAISE WELTS) anyway, after about a week, I noticed that my thinking had changed. the repetitive negative thoughts had started to disappear. In a month, I no longer need the rubber band.
Simple, easy, but it truly was effective for me.
Good luck.

Praying for me is the answer. Not for everyone it seems.
