At Least There Is A Job

Those people you see on the side of the road dressed up in Lady Liberty costumes, dancing and waving, are affectionately referred to by the company as Dancers. We see them every year when tax time rolls around. We immediately recognize what they are selling. I am not sure what the stats are as to how much revenue these dancers help to bring in every tax season, but it seems to be something that works for them since they do it every year, and have been doing it for many years. Liberty Tax is not the only company to employ such people. But certainly they are probably the most recognized for doing it. I have always said, it would not be something I would personally want to do. But, I am grateful for the fact that someone can do it. Presumably it is someone who just needs a little bit of quick cash for something, or to make just a little extra. I'd like to think that MAYBE at times some of those guys who stand on the freeway offramps might don the costumes from time to time. If someone wants to make a little extra money, and a company is willing to pay for such services, I say, at least for THOSE people, there is a job. The average pay for a Liberty Tax Dancer is around $8.05 per hour. So, it's not great money. But for someone who needs it? It's a great opportunity I think, and I support it.

Gosh. So many choices. I mean, is this a step up from Walmart greeter or a step down? Trying to figure it out.

That is exactly my thinking as well. It's better than begging. It's better than relying only on the government. It's doing SOMETHING, which is more than I can say for some people who want or need more money and aren't willing to do anything to get it.

Good on them. I hope they, at least, find it worthwhile.

@porwest And if you're desperate for money, you might try most things for a while.

That's less than minimum wage here in NJ. I dread having to do my taxes on my own this year.

Well, in a state where minimum wage is higher than the federal minimum wage, they are required to pay the state's minimum wage. $8.05 per hour is the AVERAGE. The minimum wage in New Jersey is $8.85 per hour. So your Liberty Tax dancer gets paid at least that much in your state.

@NJChicaa I am right there with you. It's not a job for me. But if a company wants to pay and someone wants to do it...why not? What do I care? I'd MUCH rather see people doing THIS than begging on the street or just sitting back and collecting a welfare check.

I am not sure it quite covers that. But it does give someone a shot at at least making a little extra.

If you've ever seen some really down and out homeless people you'd see why they rarely hire anyone who really needs a job like that. First off the truly homeless are rarely clean, where are they supposed to take showers and such, right?

That dancer is quite an amusing job. I guess it attracts attention to the purpose of the dancer about the tax.

There is an old saying in America that those who want to make a living will shovel shite if they have to to do it. Some are willing to do whatever it takes, and they generally succeed. Others just sit back and wait and they fail miserably.

Wow that reminds me of the guy in the chicken suit trying to wave customers into a Chic-Fil-A. Here's a video I found of a Mc Donald's sign waver. I think he deserves more than the standard $8.05

I am in kind of the same mindset at least they getting paid but wrote a post about this also. Funny thing they not out here in winter when those gay outfits can keep them warm and talked to Gay community they approve of this message. They make them do it in heat of day when its 110 out. A guy brought a lawn chair spiked sign in ground and was sipping lemon-aid. Never saw him again. The corporate mindset I will never get. I get making money but you can still make money and treat people with dignity and respect. You make a bunch so gives you the right to treat people like trash, nothing more infuriating because they took the time so you could feed your kids and that is how you repay them.
