The UK is unlike the USA and rarely one would find pancakes on the menu for breakfast in most British homes. We tend to have cereals or toast.
Pancakes are normally eaten on Pancake day as is generally known or rather on Shrove Tuesday the eve before Lent.
Pancakes have featured in recipe books from around the 1400's although many towns used to hold a football games from around the 12th Century. People used to use up their butter eggs before beginning their fast for Lent.
The following foods represent the following:
Eggs ~ Creation
Flour ~ The staff of life
Salt ~ Wholesomeness
Milk ~ Purity
People used to attend church on Shrove Tuesday to repent of their sins. To attend church for confession which was known as shriven would be an annual event prior to the commencement of Lent.
Legend has it that in 1445 a woman from the village of Olney heard the shriving bell while she was making pancakes and rn to church in her apron still holding her frying pan. This set the scene for the annual Olney Pancake race where local women race tossing pancakes still in the pan wearing an apron and scarf on their heads.
As we are way for Shrove Tuesday the grand children wanted grandma to make pancakes. After school my daughter dropped them at our house. Traditionally pancakes were served with lemon juice and sugar but not these days the kids wanted strawberries, banana and cream.
My wife had made some plain pancakes and also some with coconut and sultanas in them. Even the baby enjoyed her pancakes and ate every single piece up.
Do you like pancakes and do you make them? They are very simple to make!

@garymarsh6 That is nice, the thin crepes are not as heavy or cakey tasting like the pancakes are. Thick, heavy pancakes are no way to start a day in my opinion.

Pancakes is a common name in our kitchen. We make them sometimes plain to eat with meat dishes, sometimes rolled and stuffed with coconut and jaggery, sometimes stuff them with chicken mince and deep fry them.
Every tradition has a story and this story about the pancakes and the lady is hilarious.

We have them quite regularly. Vince is expert at tossing them and we have them in all sorts of ways. For a main dish, we may a filling - perhaps prawns and tuna in a white sauce, maybe with vegetables added. We've had apple pancakes for breakfast here in Kathmandu and they're yummy too.

@garymarsh6 I'll eat cooked banana but it's not my favourite. But Vince likes bananas in his. And, of course, if there are any left over, I'll have them for breakfast with Vegemite.

Too much of anything can be an adverse thing sometimes.
I like the taste of lime but not eating it itself as its very bitter.
I loved those very small tangerines from before that were bitter sweet.

Thanks for sharing all that with us Gary. I used to make pancakes but since they are filling I could not eat them all. I could not just make one. I used to love to put chocolate chips in them and they were delicious.

The best French toast I ever have had was at the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas. It was like a piece of art and looked too good to eat. The worst I have ever had was also in Las Vegas at the Luxor hotel. It looked like road kill!

I guess waffles are quite similar but thicker than pancakes. They are very popular in Belgium and France where they are covered in Strawberries and cream or chocolate sauce.

What a coincidence. We had lunch at a restaurant named Pancake. We reached the minimum amount of order for a free pancake, 2 pieces. That served as our dessert, waheehee.
