Loss of appetite

Many older people begin to miss meals. They do not feel hungry or they feel too bothered to cook for themself. This can even mess up their medication routine.
My current husband hates to eat alone. He likes to eat with someone, and he likes to cook for someone. He does not like to clean up.
My sister usually eats about one meal a day, at eight in the evening. That is part of why she was feeling overwhelmed by having so much food.
One of the things I admired about my mother was that she did make herself good meals, even though she lived alone. Usually some kind of chicken dish, but not always.
When I was first married to my first husband I always made a good breakfast for both of us. He would have lunch on the ship and we would have a good homemade meal at night.
My lunch at that time would be simpler, some cheese, crackers and fruit, or canned tuna, but always something.I do not skip meals. I liked to be outside all the time and did not often make big meals mid day. I did bake a lot, though.
Right now for my work lunches I take leftovers to heat up, because the weather is cold. When it gets warm I will probably take cheese cubes and dried fruit and deli meats, maybe crackers.
I think I will always eat three meals a day, but I guess I am the exception. Hubby and I are in this age range that will skip meals, but I will not. How about you?
Do you live alone? Are you too bothered to cook for yourself? Do you snack? Do you skip meals?

I can see us doing that on a very rare instance. On the weekends we might just grab a sandwich or snack for one meal.

@GardenGerty Vince's lunch is almost always a toasted tuna sandwich and I often have a cup of soup.

No one likes to cook all the time. Whether for just them or a housefull. Even the simple meals can be a drag when you don't want to cook. So yes i / mom and i are too bothered to cook sometimes. But we still eat a meal, just from out instead of from us cooking.
Though i don't eat 3 meals a day. Hardly ever do.

There are people who do well with two meals and a snack. I do not like to always cook, but often find when we eat out that we could have done it better at home.

@GardenGerty if I don't, I get sick to my stomach because of the meds I take.

I never thought about that.
I live alone. I eat roughly two meals a day and I snack. I love cooking. The only thing that bothers me is when my stomach screams at me that I'm neglecting it because I'm always at the computer and don't like to break away from it.

You are very conscious of what you are eating as well. I do not do well skipping meals at all.

@GardenGerty I try to be. I write down everything when I eat so I don't forget. Occasionally, that happens, but not often. I eat twice a day. More than that and my body would be way off and start demanding more food. I don't need more than what I'm eating in a day. That happens on holidays. It takes a few days for my body to get back to normal.

I think if I lived alone I might be more tempted to skip more meals, but thankfully I live with two adults and three children.

Most people pay more attention to making meals if there are kids involved.

there were times i feel like cooking and there were also times i dont feel like doing it. I like to eat home-cook foods rather than outside. sometimes, we did some eating outside once or twice a month. Sometimes we eat just two times a day depends on the status of the stomach. i only eat whenever i feel hungry. I can only skip meal if am not hungry but having snacks usually happens at late afternoon..

I am trying to prepare food for the week and keep it in the fridge for me and my husband, so most days I have my lunch break and eat at work. I also prepare a good breakfast and snacks.
However we both skip dinner because I come home late and sleep early, only a light snack or yogurt.

I could sort of see that. You are also very busy often during the day.

There are some people who are just not hungry early. I am not one of those people. You and your hubby have a rich social life that involves sharing food. I do not see you wasting away any time soon for lack of interest. That lack of interest may be why some lose their appetite.

I do not really mind cooking but I do not like cleaning up.
