I am not a poet. However, I got this in my e-mail and thought I would share. If you can make a few bucks, why not? Most of the time, poets do it as a passion, not worrying about getting paid or not.

Thank you for this I write as you said for passion. It is also a way for me to help with my Mental Illnesses. Very good for those bad times when I just need to vent it out for some reason poetry makes it easier for me to express than writing a journal. Idk why it's just like that.
Over time I made a blog but now for me I would want to turn this passion into a way to make money because I enjoy it so much and I'm not able to work a 'normal' job due to poor physical and mental health.
Anyways thank you for this post. I am finally at the point where I have the courage to post my works for submission to poetry magazines/journals and competitions so this will come in use for me!
