Mmm Squash Soup- Great for Winter!

Last fall when we were away in a different town with our son, we stopped for a late lunch in a cute little bistro type restaurant by a river. It was lovely and both my son and I ordered the squash soup as well as something else. That squash soup with caramelized pear was absolutely delicious and I haven't ever forgotten it.
The other day I decided to make a squash soup with a recipe I found on line and although it didn't call for pear it would be my first attempt at squash soup. It had a bit of honey in it and some ginger and it turned out very well. I already ate a few bowls and there's just a little left. Oh such a shame my husband THINKS he doesn't or won't like squash soup so I'll just have to finish it myself--lol!
However, I'm determined to find a recipe that includes caramelized pear because although this soup was delicious- it's still not as good as that restaurant version we had in the fall.
I have had pumpkin soup too a while back and really loved that. Ever try squash soup? It really is fabulous on a cold winters day!

@marlina It seems like it although the one there was carmelized pear but I could carmelize the pear slices first with a little sugar in a pan first and leave out the honey in the recipe I just used. that could work.

Think the pear is just a touch added and blended it and would give it a great flavour. I will try that next and just add it to this recipe as it was an easy one.

@MarymargII I have found several recipes online, one use maple syrup to add to the caramelized pears and that one seems the more tasty. I would not add honey to a butternut or pumpkin soup, I cannot see the taste going well with them.

@LadyDuck Yes next time I will try the carmelized pears- Just heat in a pan with a little sugar and maybe a dab of butter and then cook into the soup before you blend it.

Think it's just a few carmelized slices perhaps that are added and then blended into the smooth soup---it was really tasty. The soup I just made had honey in it so I would try to leave the honey out to taste and add the pears which would have enough sweetness. It was delicious though.

I think I love those velvety types of soups as i make a blended leek and potato soup that I love as well. Will have to delve into more possibilities.

No I would say you'd definitely have to love squash to enjoy it.

I never made squash or pumpkin soup myself. My mom sometimes makes it and may give me some. But we do buy canned Butternut Squash soup from Progressive. It could be a bit thicker but I do love its taste. It's great for when there is nothing to eat at home.

If you like squash it is so good-- yes I've tried many pre-made versions as well and many are good- right often they're too thin.
