This buffet line was weird

I hadn't seen this girl in ages. She and I used to be closer friends but while I was busy maturing and making something of myself, she stayed perpetually in her teenage years. We started to drift apart, especially as she started a petty fight with another one of our friends. So it was odd being in her car again and talking to her about our life. The more we talked, the more I realized that while we've both grown, she still hasn't really matured. I try to give her the benefit of the doubt but I find myself drowning her out more than anything. We find ourselves in the parking lot of a strip mall to grab some food. The food is meant to benefit some sort of organization but the rules and prices are unclear. She doesn't have any money with her so I throw down two $20 bills and we head over to the first buffet line. It's full of fried foods with some dessert options at the end. She's already piled her plate high but people keep getting in front of me before I can tell the workers what I'd like. Before I know it the food is all gone and I must move on to the next buffet. This one is altogether different. All manner of sweets are wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam packaging. Once again my old friend has her plate piled high. I stand there unsure of what I want, but knowing that it would be something I'd eat later. My stomach is hungry for real food first. A bell chimes and before I know it people are running towards the tables and grabbing up foods. I start to do the same, but find that most of the things I grab have been smashed by greedy fists. Maybe coming here wasn't such a good idea after all. --- Then I wake up, but not before going into the strip mall to give the friend's husband what food I was able to grab, my old friend not willing to give her own husband any of the food she grabbed.
