Okay. This I am CERTAIN will be controversial. I GET IT. Kobe Bryant was a father, generally a good man, an iconic basketball player, a husband...
BUT, I think his death is being overplayed and overhyped by the media. I mean, I feel sad he died. I feel sad he was young. I feel sad his daughter died on the helicopter with him. I feel sad that 7 people died in the crash.
Come on, did they do this for Whitney Houston? Michael Jackson? Steve Irwin?
How much coverage was there for an iconic actor with 70+ years of contribution? Kirk Douglas?
I just think that the media is taking the Kobe Bryant thing way too far. They didn't even do all this for iconic John Denver.
Death is always sad. But do we really need all this coverage? All this hype? And really, let's be real here, what REALLY was Kobe Bryant's contributon to SOCIETY?
I am just asking if all this is necessary.
Are we just looking for heroes? It's done. He's gone. Get on with it. And how much of a hero was he? He was a great basketball player who was accused of rape. I don't know. I just don't get it.

I saw that too. I mean, there seems to be a lot of reason for her to sue the helicopter company and so I get why she is doing that. But the rest of it? The special? Just not sure it is all necessary. The ONLY thing I can see them MAYBE trying to do, and that would not surprise me, is to make him suddenly more a legend than he really was to make money on it. The family and everyone else.

@just4him No. Nothing like Elvis Presley in my opinion. Elvis was a true legend. He changed rock and roll. He was a major superstar. He was followed by and beloved by hundreds of millions of fans. His work will also stand the test of time. I don't think one can compare Bryant to Presley.
I also think it's just a quick money grab for the family and businesses around Bryant. There will be nothing lasting about Bryant. 45 years later we're still talking about Presley, and even if you mention Elvis' name to kids, they will know who he was. 45 years from now NOBODY will have a clue who Kobe Bryant was unless they look him up...
And they will have to. IF anyone even mentions his name.

They are just playing too much on this whole thing. They are trying to make him out to be some saint, and a hero that he really isn't. I mean, like I said. I GET it. It was tragic. It was sad. But I don't hear much about what he did for the inner cities. I don't hear much about what he did for the average man. They are WAY overplaying him.

I have noticed that people seem to latch on to some celebrities and not others. You are right he had his time and he was remembered and now it is time to move along.

This is very true. I get that they happen to be in the limelight, and because they are famous, they are going to be more known and get more attention. But yes, time to move on on this one. I would not place Kobe Bryant in that "high impact celebrity" category in any event.

I agree with you. He wasn't the president or the pope or even Elvis Presley.

I think we make much too much of athletes, actors/actresses. It is sad that he passed, but no more sad than all the other people on the planet who die each day.
