Running out of masks

Because of the Coronavirus fear, we’ve been advised to wear masks when we go out. But I’ve discovered that all pharmacies where I live have run out of stock. Fortunately, I still have some old stocks at home.
What about where you live? Can you still buy masks at your local pharmacy?

Thank goodness Louisiana has not been ordered to get a mask to protect me from the coronavirus. I am keeping my fingers crossed though.

It seems like the Coronavirus is spreading quite fast in the US that Trump has ordered quarantines for cities that have cases of Coronavirus. It’s really amazing how fast this virus spread. I heard last week that there was only one case and then this week, it has risen to more than 50 people or something. I’m not sure what’s the actual number is. It’s frightening but Trump seems unfazed.

@UmiNoor I am thinking that President Trump is living in a dream world.

@Deepizzaguy Perhaps he’s just a minimiser. The last thing he wants is people panicking. He needs to portray an image of calm and confidence. Who can tell what really goes on under that blonde head of his?

I have some masks left from the time I was in chemo. But I have read about the virus and the best you can do is to use a lot of soap at home.

Not only are pharmacies running out of masks, there are no more hand sanitisers being sold at any of the pharmacies here. The government even put out a PSA telling people that it’s better to wash your hands with soap and water rather than using hand sanitisers.

@UmiNoor i have known for a long time that plain soap is better than hand sanitizers.

@marguicha That is so obvious. I don't know why these people are stocking up on hand sanitisers.

The World Health Organization, and the Centers for Disease Control in the United States, have both stated that masks are completely ineffective from protecting you from getting the virus. The masks are only effective at stopping infected people from spreading the virus to others. In other words, if you have the virus, you should wear a mask. If you are healthy and don't have the virus, then there is no need to wear a mask.

That is what I thought but how do you know you have the virus? It does take some time for the virus to show. Does the virus infect people during its incubation period? I understand that if you’re not sick, you don’t need to wear the mask but how do you know if you’re not sick if the virus takes some days to show itself?

@UmiNoor I agree with you. I have the same questions. They say you only need to wear the mask if you have the virus, but like you said, how do you know if you have the virus? It's confusing. And to answer your question, yes you can infect other people during the incubation period. That's what is making it so hard to control the spread of this virus, as people who seem healthy could be carrying the virus and spreading it to others.

I was somewhere and someone was looking for a mask and they did not have any. I had a mask from quite some time ago so when I go out out I have to wear it. My doctor instructed me to wear one because I have chronic rhinitis. I have not checked on a mask because I have one and use that one.
