When feeling sleepy in a seminar

I have attended countless of seminars and workshops that I have to admit feeling sleepy in more than half of the time. I always bring something to eat like candy or cookies just to fight boredom and to energize my eyelids.
It's a sorry scenario now that seminar attendees tend to use their phone secretly during the session. I haven't done that unethical behavior.

Yes, I try to avoid attending seminars but when it is my duty then I have no choice.

@Alexandoy I remember you mentioning your nephew's son. There is a time and place for phones/gadgets - holy mass in church is definitely a no-no. This is why many kids lack imagination (and manners) these days - they are constantly being entertained by their gadgets - without boredom, there cannot be creativity!

I am very strict with phones and other gadgets. In one of my posts, I related the story of my nephew's son who is 11 years old. I caught him playing games on his phone while the holy mass is ongoing inside the church.

@much2say you are right with the imagination because the minds of those gadget addicts are not exercised. It's like using calculator in a math class that no thinking is needed. I wonder what kind of person they would become as adults.

@cgalavia we always do that when we hold seminars and workshops related to the movie industry. We always hold it in a nice place with a garden.

The early afternoon hours are the hardest time. In one seminar that I attended, we have a sort of immersion by walking outside the seminar room and continue the talk outside. But that is only possible when the compound is pleasant and accommodating.

Not too often but I cannot remember the number. In that picture, it was a 1 week seminar, 8 hours per day.

@Alexandoy You're the one in the room telling jokes and being in control.

That after lunch hour is the most dreaded since my eyes would be drooping. When I was still a smoker, I would ask permission to go to the bathroom only to smoke just to wake me up. But when I quit smoking, the candies and chewing gum are my refuge.

@JudyEv taking notes is a standard for me and sometimes I even make drawings to amuse me, waheehee. But for a whole day seminar, the punishing moment is after lunch.

@Alexandoy Sometimes I would take notes which made me concentrate but it wasn't always possible.

Have you tried the kopiko candy? I heard that works.

I know that candy because we give that to carolers during the Christmas season. But I don't like coffee. My favorite is the fudge or any other butter candy.

You are right. We cannot simply avoid a seminar when it is part of our job responsibilities.

I hope the organizers of seminar would collect the phones and gadgets before the start. Maybe that can be the decorum.

When the seminar is whole day it is difficult to avoid feeling sleepy.
