Continuing onward with my music trivia series of heartfelt tunes. And although Valentine's Day has passed, this trivia quiz will carry on until the flowers bloom in spring. So, let's take a look at some additional heart-titled songs to solve. Here we go.... Sometimes you just have to accept heartbreak, be strong and move on. That's what this video song "Harden My Heart" by Quarterflash is all about. Fun fact: Here's something you don't see too often: a female lead singer who also plays the saxophone part. Rindy Ross (wife of group member Marv Ross) from Quarterflash did just that on this song and their follow up single "Find Another Fool." And now with our video tune done it's that time again. Time to solve today's trivia songs and artists...Whodunnit? 1. This band had a female lead singer who went on to record solo in late 1968. She tragically died in 1970, at age 27, due to a heroin overdose. But while with this group, this song was her most successful and best known. This tune was a cover of a song first recorded by Erma Franklin, sister of Aretha. The tune is about a woman who is foresaken by one's lover and will give up part of her heart if he will take her back. You might recall this artist from the #1 song she recorded as a solo artist, the posthumous "Me And Bobby McGee," that went to #1 in 1971. Although she wasn't the first to record it, the song remains most associated with this singer and continued to get airplay long after her death. Do you know the trivia song, this singer, and the band she was in when the tune was released in 1968? 2. This group's 1978 hit song fused both punk with disco. The band did not expect this tune to reach # 1 on the charts, in fact, they only did this song as "a novelty item to put more diversity into their album." The band arose from the New Wave CBGB scene of the 70's along with other groups like The Talking Heads, Patti Smith, and The New York Dolls. This tune is not your typical heartbreak theme. According to the group's singer, she "was tired of hearing girl singers write or sing about being beaten by love. So instead, she wrote a song where the girl just walks away." And paraphrasing from her song lyrics, when love is no longer a gas, and there is a lot of mistrust, it's time to leave that love behind. Final Fun Fact: before becoming the singer for this band this gal was a former waitress and Playboy Bunny. So, do you know the band this lady was a member of... And can you name this heart pounding euro-Disco hit? Bonus - Quarterflash opened for this British artist in the early 80's after "Harden My Heart" hit the charts reaching #3 on Billboard. This muscian rarely used opening acts at his concerts, but decided to enlist this band when this song hit the airwaves. Do you know the name of this artist? Ok. let's "harden our hearts" and solve these song and artist clues. Remember part of the song's name has a "heart' reference in it's title. If your stuck and need additional help, just let me know in your response. Or, as the group The Temptations might say, "Don't Be Too Proud To Beg" if you need another clue. Gave you an extra cheer for realizing I put in the wrong video for the bonus question 1. Other than the girl singer playing some neat sax solos there was nothing out of the ordinary. I guess I had a change of heart on the video, lol.
