Before I give you the #1 song on my list of blue-eyed favorites (and everyone already knows what that song is), it’s time to pop the cork on this series of favorites with “wine” in the title. This was inspired by a very funny discussion from @DianneN about myLot’s “fix bad word” feature not caring for char/donnay because of the letters between C and the second N. You can be a little too careful with things, as that discussion proved. So let’s drink up to the bad word filter with this first number! #10: Drinkin’ Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee - Jerry Lee Lewis Killer! By The Killer!! And it’s such an appropriate song to begin a countdown that was inspired by the bad word filter. “Spo-Dee-O-Dee” was a four-syllable nonsense word to replace the original Samuel L. Jackson-like lyric. A song that helped pave the way to rock and roll, Jerry Lee’s original rock and roll rendition (in 1966) wasn’t a hit. (By then he’d been banished from rock and roll for his sins [think about the humor in that...the genre that gave us the 13-year-old groupies].) However, he re-recorded the song in 1973 and it was a country hit. That’ll make you drink some wine to figure out. Drinkin’ Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee Written by Sticks McGhee and J. Mayo Williams Recorded by Jerry Lee Lewis From the album Memphis Beat, 1966 Also from Session, 1973 Half and half!

Personally? I met his sister when she toured with Robbie Fulks. We had a great chat.

I'd never heard the original, but Billy Idol has the title as a lyric in one of his remixes (can't remember which song).

Country? That boy was still rockin'! Would love to see Little Richard and Lewis in a pound that piano competition.
