The objective of religion

I have pondered lately, what exactly does religion attempt to achieve. What purpose do the various faithly inclinations (and the lack of it - Atheism) seek to establish? I am yet to fathom a clear subsidy to the concept.

Basically, peace of mind. the word literally means 'by the book' (and the first Christians were called 'people of the book'). As everybody in your religion goes 'by the book (of your religion),' it's easy to know who's right.

I believe that religion has various purposes. Some may purport that religion is a means of control for the masses. For some, it is their moral rule book. For others, the purpose of religion is to seek guidance in life, to find their own purpose. It really depends on the faith and the person/people who follow it.

Welcome to myLot! I would think that the purpose of religion would be to teach us about God and answer questions that we may have about God.
