I don't know if we will make it to the Keys this fall; but I do know that I'm enjoying planning the trip. I am unable to fly; so we are driving the whole way. 1,422 miles one way!
This will be our 5th trip there; and I already have some maps that I made years ago, marked with attractions and LAMINATED...well, it's hot and steamy in the Keys; and this way the maps won't disintegrate.
I am receiving brochures and maps from the various states/Keys that we will be visiting. There are all kinds of things to look up on the internet including attractions, accommodations and restaurants.
My husband even went out and bought me a package of highlighters so that I could mark our routes on the maps. Isn't he thoughtful?
We are celebrating our 50th anniversary; so we aren't in any hurry to get back....we will take our time and see everything. Also, we will pass through some states that we've never been in before (South Carolina is one...in Georgia we have only been in the airport).
Are you taking a trip this year? If so, I'd love to hear about it.

How long is the drive? I hate long car rides. Unless there are many rest stops... Would be nice to finally go to Paris (France) this year. We never went on our honeymoon and that's where I wanted to go. If we do go I'd like it to be around Nov. 6th, which is our wedding day.

@LindaOHio Don't they have that golf-cart type thing in airports that can transport people through the terminal?

@LindaOHio Oh, in that case car is best. But can you guys drive for that long? That's very exhausting.

1,422 miles, 23 hours 41 minutes. We would fly which would be my preference; but I can't walk that far through the terminals, to the desk, to the gates....I'd never make it.

Maybe you will be able to join us in Key West in September? Or one of the other Keys.

Your trip sounds wonderful...hope your 50th anniversary is spectacular! Tell us all about it. If you get to visit Charleston, SC, there are so many great events and places to visit and eat. Just be careful if you drive right in the city, there are lots of narrow, one way streets.

Thanks. Thank you for the heads-up on Charleston. We are probably going to stay away from the big cities.

Sounds like you are going to miss this part of the state. If you decide another route back you could come I 10 to the panhandle here the go up 165 through Alabama and perhaps catch Tennessee and Kentucky coming close to to several of us. Our sugar white beaches with the emeral blue green water is quite beautiful.

You are so sweet. You are the third person who has invited me to come over. We are taking a different route back, so you never know!

I hope you get to go. No trips unless I hit the lottery and move.

I love planning for trips but I don't really have anywhere to go or the means to do it but the prep is always so fun.
