Loving Someone That suffers from Alcoholism.

It has been a stressful week for sure. I love my husband but hate having to deal with his drinking. It causes me so much stress and anxiety. But he has really been trying to cut down but he doesn't want to stop altogether. When he is sober, he is the perfect man, very loving, kind, and always tries to be there for me when I'm struggling with my mental disability. But when he drinks too much, he gets extremely sarcastic and mean. He doesn't hurt me physically, but emotionally. I consider myself a very strong person and have overcome many things in my life. I believe in living a happy life and for the most part I really am happy. It is just this one area that causes me the greatest grief. I love this man so much but I know he drinks because he suffers from low self esteem and depression. He is just too stubborn to get help. All I can do is keep loving him and being there for him. I just needed to vent my frustrations.

Thank you. It's hard not having anyone around to talk about it and I really needed to vent.

@AmbiePam problem is we live in a van and he does the driving. Right now we are camping in the Arizona desert but we will be hitting the road again next month. But, I may look to see if there are online support groups.

@MistyckMoon I bet they have them, and I hope you find one that is helpful. In the meantime, just keep coming here and hopefully we can give you some emotional support.

I can feel what you have to face. My boyfriend is the same... Yesterday we had a wonderful day at the beach, we were all of a happy couple... and today just after work he met some friends, had drinks again like almost every day and everything just crumbled. Just feel sometimes like I am not allowed to be happy cause it's gonna be gone the bottle later ... but love is a thing that makes you handle the unbearable.

So true. Loving someone should never be painful andvyet, love is a strong bond that is hard to break apart.

I think that is the real beauty of myLot. You can talk about problems here knowing that it really isn't going to affect anyone very much - at least not in the same way as talking to friends or relatives might. I'm sorry this is happening. Stay strong.

I'm sorry to hear about that, it certainly is a difficult thing to deal with, especially if they don't see it and are not interested in getting the help they need. Just remember that you have to take care of yourself and do what is right for you.
