I have to give credit on points of bravery on U S Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Stephen Bondira who recently received his Air Medal from his superiors in a ceremony held in Detroit Michigan where he is currently stationed.
Bondira led his crew on a rescue mission during Hurricane Florence that struck the Atlantic Coast in mid September 2018.
Bondira had the tough task of being the pilot of his helicopter when his crew had to rescue a young man who was hanging on to a tree to avoid drowning from a raging river.
The U S Coast Guard swimmer who was sent to rescue the victim nearly fell into the river due to the high winds in the area.
After the rescue swimmer was able to save the victim when the rescue swimmer was able to gain a steady foothold while hanging on to cable.
When the rescue swimmer was able to save the victim, the cable was caught by the tree branches when Bondira was able to correct the cable problem and get both the rescue swimmer and the victim to safety.
I am sure that Bondira had a lot of practice learning how to deal with these kind of emergencies in the past before the rescue mission in September 2018.
I am very happy to learn that Commander Bpndira was rewarded for his leadership skills during a rescue mission during a hurricane which can test the nerves of any human being.

the coast guard has some of the bravest people I have ever seen. We have a couple of stations here near where I live, I have watched them practice rescues in the raging surf of the Pacific during the winter. I cannot imagine the difficulty they have just trying to keep their boat steady while doing a rescue, let alone what the men and women who have to deal with the boat in distress go through.

I agree with you since it takes nerves of steel flying a helicopter during s huge storm.

Heroes deserve to be honored. They risk their lives for others, so they deserve recognition and much more.

That was a very risky mission; and I'm glad both are safe.

He has the nerve and the guts to overcome those difficult situations in rescuing the man in trouble in a raging river.

That is true since I am sure that in practice drills Commander Bondira practiced this worst case run before.

Learning from your comment I must say this is one of the bravest attempts I have seen of late made by any rescue team. Captain Bondira certainly deserves the award to the fullest and the efforts made by him and his team is nothing short of brilliance.
