I just had a funny experience.

I was returning to my car after depositing some cash (mostly gig money) at a banking machine. Suddenly I heard the excited voice of a child, seemingly calling out to me. I thought I heard my name, but I wasn't sure. The voice sounded familiar, and the enunciation was not good. It remind me of one of the kids I had work worked with until two weeks ago when he was three and "aged out" of our classroom. The kid is not potty trained, so he can't move on to the 3- through 5-room. In any case, I looked over and saw eyes (in the back seat) between a front seat and its headrest. I had been right. Those were the eyes on N---, and he was looking right at me. I waved an said "Hi!", but I didn't say his name, in case I was wrong. And also to "protect the confidentiality of a client." When his mom was done buckling him in, I asked her, more quietly, "That's not N--- in the back of the car is it?" I recognized her when I looked her in the face, and knew what her response would be. I asked her how his potty training was coming along, and she said it was going well. I told her that I looked forward to seeing him again in the "big kid room," and she said "I hope so too." I think it was a positive interaction. I hope I get a chance to work with him again on his language development.

He's "behind," but his mom said they're "trying."I hope he comes back as well, ready for the 3-year-old room, soon as well.

@TheHorse Some kids just take longer. I have a cousin that a little over 2 would flat out say No I poop in my diaper Didnt matter if he had a diaper on or some type of underwear either.

He'd be "next door" (where I worked today). But I'd still have contact with him.

That was so sweet of you to stop and talk to him. A lot of people would have just got in their car and drove away without saying hi to him.

I did. He's a tad developmentally delayed, but he responds well to 1 x 1 attention. I hope he gets his potty act together and comes back soon.

Sometimes I wonder what it is that makes kids seek me out. I think it may be the fact that I listen them and their little stories.

Is it scary when you know kids' voices better than adults'?

Glad that the child is progressing. He should have already achieved potty training.

Yes, he has a few delays that his parents are going to have to deal with. But I've seen him make strides over the past year.
