Thanks to the bad word fixer here on myLot and @DianneN ‘s problem with it when she tried to post about wine I’ve had a great time pouring wine songs all over you. Here’s the next song on my list of favorites with “wine” in the title.
#2: Wine Me Up - Faron Young
Give me a 4/4 shuffle and watch me go!
Ray Price didn’t invent the 4/4 shuffle, but he perfected it. Others took hold of it and made some great shuffles on their own. Case in point: this song.
I’ve mentioned Faron Young before, and how he was a piece of work. A friend of mine said he couldn’t even get too far into Young’s biography....not because it was poorly written, but Young was such a jerk that he felt Young’s story wasn’t worth the time investment.
But oh, could the man sing.
As John pointed out in his list of people he felt should be in the Country Music Hall of Fame, the sins sometime override the quality of the career. That’s probably what’s keeping an obviously eligible person like Hank Williams Jr. out, along with others that John mentioned (like Johnny Paycheck) and didn’t mention (Spade Cooley...but hey, if the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame can have a murderer inducted [Phil Spector], why not the Country hall?). It probably kept Young out of the Hall of Fame during his lifetime, too: he was inducted his first year of posthumous eligibility.
Sometimes we can know too much about the performers, instead of just focusing on the music. When I hear this fabulous song (one of my 100 favorites) I forget all about Young’s nasty reputation. Because oh, could the man sing.
Wine Me Up
Written by Faron Young and Billy Deaton
Recorded by Faron Young
From Wine Me Up, 1969
I’d like to thank the men that raise the grapes:

@FourWalls - What a shame. And not just because I always liked him. So it'll be like the R&R HOF and somehow Rascal Flatts will get in on the first ballot while Johnny Paycheck continues getting shunned. Sad.
