I'm Not an Alarmist, But . . .

I am a pretty level-headed, pragmatic sort really. But all singers are germaphobes by nature. We were washing, washing, washing hands before it was popular. Hand sanitizer has been a part of my voice studio acoutrement for years.
But, I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, where events are being canceled, and store shelves empty of toilet paper and hand sanitizer as soon as they are re-stocked.
So, yesterday, I went out and bought two weeks worth of groceries, more bleach, and enough dog food to last for a while.
I also know two elderly people who were stuck on the Grand Princess cruise ship. So, now I know friends that have been exposed and will be quarantined.
So, though I am not an alarmist, I am now taking active precautions. As an aside, the opening to Eine Kleine Nachtmusik is a nice uptempo song to hum while washing hands.
Stay safe everyone.

I think it makes good sense to take the necessary precautions with getting overly emotional, this too will pass.

This one may end up being with us the same way seasonal flu is- a vaccine would help.

@porwest I think it will be a while before that happens as consumer spending overall is slowing

@divalounger I have not seen any such report, and I watch these things very closely. The last report I saw was that consumer spending was up and so was consumer confidence. We won't see March numbers until about midway through April.
We MAY see it. But I actually think spending will be up a bit considering all of this hoarding, but certainly there could be a negative impact from certain other closings like sports events and what not.

Yup--the math is scary when you look at it--I went out the other days and bought 2 weeks worth of food and dog food so that if one of us gets sick and other quarantined, at least we will have supplies

@divalounger Some here have been told to isolate themselves at home but they've shopped on the way! I know it may not be easy if you don't have support but it's still pretty irresponsible.

@Nevena83 I don't think panic helps--but information and preparedness does help
