Do you care that the Dow Jones Industrial average is down another 1900 points today?

As of the time of this writing (8:39 AM California time) the DJIA is down another 1,965 points to 21,587.62.
How low do you think it might go? Trying to "time the market" is difficult, but I'm glad I took some money out when it was at 29,000.
Do you worry about the Corona virus? Do you agree with Trump's decision to ban flights from Europe?
We live in interesting times.

We had here a speech from Christine Lagarde who was telling that we would have a financial crisis similar to 2008 if the states were not supporting their economy. It was what I was expecting Trump to do, but he surprised everybody by his ban on travelers from the Schengen area. I do not think that putting in difficulties tourism and travel companies may help. Our stock market is losing 10% today...

I do care about the financial crisis, things are not looking too good for now. I believe they will get better. Things will bounce back eventually. And why not ban flights to other countries. Protecting us is what he is trying to do. Even though we have the virus here now, it can't hurt to not allow others in the country right now.

it's disturbing. I heard they suspended trading because of the early losses.

I care about the financial crisis that will come and it will come, believe me! We should have banned flights from China since the beginning here in Europe, now we would not be in such a terrible mess. Anyway banning the flights now it is too late, the virus is already in your country.

@topffer Correct, as it is pandemic every decision to lock the borders now is ridiculous. We are going to have a serious financial crisis soon, but the air will be cleaner in few weeks, no flights, no cruises no people moving around when not necessary.

I have no money invested but can see a recession coming soon. Not worried about the virus.

@TheHorse I figure I cant hide from everything. And anytime I step into the pasture my life can be at risk. The horses are gentle but things can happen.

I'm a tad worried about the virus, but haven't taken any real precautions. I wonder how long this recession will last. As soon as we hear the words "virus under control," the market will surge 3,000 points. But how badly damaged with our infrastructure remain?

@wolfgirl569 Keep in mind that what constitutes the start of a recession is three consecutive quarters of a decline in GDP. So far we haven't even had a single quarter of GDP decline. That may change with the next report. Doesn't mean we won't see it. We just need to keep a close eye on the next set of data to gauge what any real impact of Coronavirus has been and to what extent.
I think calling out the potential for a recession at this point is extremely premature.

@DocAnderson I would agree that we will be in a BEAR market for the next 4-5 months for sure, and maybe a bit longer. But the steep declines and the wild swings, I think, are probably almost over UNLESS we see some other major economic data to support lower valuations in the markets.

Four million people in Kentucky, and .000002% of the population (or eight people) have tested positive. And yet, every major university in the state has suspended classes or gone to online classes.
I think Men At Work had a song about this.....

I'm not worried about the coronavirus...I'm concerned. I think it's too late to ban flights. The virus is here. As far as the market goes. We'll just have to wait and see. I wish I had some extra money to invest in these deflated stocks.

@TheHorse Well, you definitely don't want to sell now! You should be buying if you can afford to. This "recession" in the stock market may or may not take a while to recover. We are retired and hoping that it's not too long as we have money in a mutual fund.
