Corona coughing and Corona voluntary self-isolation

With the only Corona worse than the lager spreading people are getting jittery when anyone coughs. Many cough anyway from common colds, other flus, Ashma, 20-40 cigs a day habits and just about anything else. I tend to have a bronchial cough a lot. I was at a community centre a few days ago when a guy there had a severe coughing fit. I’ve seen him do it lots over the years I’ve been in preston but several people left the IT centre when he did it this time and one of the staff (who does know him) handed him a loo roll and told him to be careful. I can see people getting treated as pariahs, causing riots or getting lynched in public for coughing at this rate. Even when I hear a cough I start wondering is that normal or could it be ‘that’ cough. I wonder how much my coughing, unaccompanied by the corona high temperature fever might dupe me into not noticing i’m in the more serious side of coughing – there are cases in Preston now with at least one isolation case in Ingol (my district) and Preston College has had to shut for deep cleaning – a sense of walls closing in with this thing coming round. Boris Johnson’s handling is not great though glad I’m not in the US under Trumpenfuhrer’s denial stance. If I am one who catches Covid-19 (sounds like a Sith droid) I realise that while I might get a rough ride from it I’ll more than likely survive but I could potentially turn all Typhoid Mary and anyone I then infect might face much worse. The self isolation policy seems odd to me. Overall I practically live it daily anyway being a singleton in bedsit land, - my housing is not far removed from what would count as solitary confinement in jail, but I actually like it that way. I remember reading in Papilon how a 2 year stint of solitary drove him to edge of his sanity. I’d be more afraid of cell and cell block sharing and I expect I’d last about a day in prison. I’d probably thump someone in there just to get myself put in solitary and feel safer. Covid isolation would not worry me in itself though missing planned events would trouble me – I do wonder how it works for families though. When ill as a kid, my mum would be in to tend to me every ten minutes, bringing soup, Vapour rubs, TLC and checking my temperature – can a parent treat a loved one as a no go zone figure? Are we supposed to push soup under the door and let them drink Kiora through a straw stuck through the letter box? Short of hazmat suit wear anyone in the same house as a sufferer is going to risk infection from direct contact, touching banisters, using a shared bathroom, etc – also if isolated for up to 2 weeks, the isolated ones will need to get enough shopping in to last the duration or they might have to venture out to buy essentials, and spread the joy in the process. The infirm and disabled clearly can't be isolated unaccompanied. Youtube Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry, Be Happy Arthur Chappell

It is a serious situations and our leaders are not ready (nor competent) enough to deal with this situation. I like the new word Trumpenfuhrer, it is perfect from this man, who should not sit there in a moment like the one we are living. I went out grocery shopping, I wash my hands, I pay attention, I always covered my mouth if I sneeze, unfortunately too many people are careless. I think we will live with this problem for several weeks and later, may be, the world will be better.

@arthurchappell Yes, the more we know and the more we realize that this virus is not something that will end in a few weeks. Sadly it reminds me so much the Black Plague, that in Italy started in the same cities that are now affected by Covid-19.

So far, coughing has proved for some to be a great way of getting people not to queue in front of them.

@arthurchappell I think people are finally getting a bit more paranoid about coughs.

I missed this back on the 13th. We've talked about what would happen if one of us got infected. We could have separate bedrooms and bathrooms, wear masks in the house but I guess there would be a lot of washing of hands going on. Otherwise, like you, it's pretty much solitary confinement here, except that there are two of us.

We are not panicking. We are being cautious and concerned. We have enough food and toilet paper to get us through 2-3 weeks if necessary. So far the closest the virus is is in the adjoining county to ours. 4 cases so far in Ohio; but I'm sure there will be more. There are only 3 states without any confirmation of cases. You're right about Trump. He denies there is any problem with testing when municipalities are begging for test kits. There is a shortage out there. Stay safe and healthy and thank you for your thoughtful post.
