How Badly Do You Want Pizza?

Okay, I was not here yesterday. I ended up taking hubby to the VA Emergency Room in Wichita AGAIN In part because he did not do what I wanted him to do the other day when we were already there. That is a different story and possible rant. Since we were there two days ago the VA has implemented even more precautions. They were just verbally going through a check list to screen for COVID-19. Now you come in the entrance that is flanked by a sanitizer dispenser. You are greeted by a person behind a clear plastic curtain who asks you about the possible exposures and symptoms such as travel, aches, flu like symptoms, etc. She fills out a paper and hands it to you and says "Carry this on your person while you are here." For those who unfortunately have risk factors, she assigns a mask. EVERYONE uses hand sanitizer before they proceed. So we have checked in, been seen at the desk, gotten our papers and are sitting in the lobby. A pizza delivery arrives. He is screened. I am listening. . . he denies "flu like symptoms" but admits to a cough and body aches. The screener says "those are flu like symptoms, fills out his paper, hands him a mask and tells him he will wear that while here. He has a paper print out of the order and bill he has been holding, long before he used sanitizer, or was given a mask. A healthcare worker comes out, signs the credit card print out and he opens the insulated carrier and hands her a large pizza box. The credit slip he handled before using sanitizer, the box and carrier he had before being screened. How badly do you want pizza? I do not think I would want that pizza. . . or possibly I would not even patronize the business selling it, if their employees are handling food while sick. I pack my lunch for work. I packed food for going to VA two weeks ago and for shopping yesterday. I am not paranoid, but hubby is struggling with his health. I am struggling with finances. It is good to take precautions. I am sorry that some people need to work while sick.

I have struggled with illness lately (cancer)) and with finances too (ever since I became a widow 20 years ago). I discovered that the cheapest and cleanest way to eat was to cook everything with my own hands. I make my own pizzas and have a dough that only asks for baking powder.

Yes, you have lived a good life with good planning, though. I think planning is the key.

@GardenGerty I agree. I try to live within my budget so that I can get at least one week or two of vacations during the cold months.

I'm a little leary about ordering any kind of food delivery.

I live so rural I would not be able to get it if I did order it. I never was much on it anyway.

I had an idea just a little bit ago that part of what made him sick might be a medicine.

@GardenGerty It is possible, as our doctor says all the time, all medications have side effects.

I notice that stuff. I was thinking that at Walmart. The woman behind me was putting on gloves to check out because the card machines are full of germs. But she had handled the cart and items in it without the gloves. So she really did not protect herself any.

@GardenGerty But I have seen many people wipe the handle then grab another part of the cart. Not to mention the items you put in your cart are handled by many people.

Ilove pizza but I think with the way things are I would not be eating that one. It's sad we have become slightly paranoid.

But really, how effective is a squirt of hand sanitizer when the virus could be on everything else? Wouldn't a Lysol shower be better?

The lady at the desk has to take our paperwork and ID's etc. and I am sure they were wiping down everything else. Hand sanitizer is a start, anyway.

It's like people wearing gloves while they handle food but they still take money with their gloves on and give out change.

I know. It happens. On the other hand our school food service workers do an excellent job of glove usage.

@GardenGerty Some have commonsense and others have very little.

I noticed it right away. I also know what it is like to need a job. I hope the delivery guy takes this as a warning and gets seen by his medical professionals.

Often people do not use common sense.
