My Mystery Novel

So, I'm writing a mystery novel, and I'm hoping to get it published. However, this is my first attempt at the genre, so I don't know if I'm doing it right. Or if the novel is any good in regards to suspense and mystery. Something that really pops to the reader. What kinds of things do you like seeing in a Mystery?

Mysterious characters. I also like to be kept guessing until you get towards the end. A lot of twists and turns throughout. Good luck with your novel. You will do fine.

@HazySue I have a habit of doing that. Even with this novel. It originally started out in the 1800s but I felt that it didn't work so i changed it to modern times.

@indiandevil I know how you feel. Just do your best and don't overthink it. My biggest problem is going back time after time to change something. It can be changed so much that it now longer makes sense.

I think twists are always popular as long as they don't go to absurd levels.

I'm planning some big twists for this one, as I am hoping it can lead to a series.

@snowy22315 Thank you for the tip. I'm sure that my planned twists will be believable. I have also been dropping hints, as in character behaviors and odd things they say that will later be explained by the twist therefore making the twist more believable.

@indiandevil I think that is good. Just don't make the twists too unbelievable. I have read some with twists that just have me saying oh brother!

With your cat story I figured writing stories came easy for you. How are you thinking to publish it? Self publishing it will you try mainstream first?

@Michellekidwell I'm sure that I'll give updates on here. I might even need a few beta readers for those who might be interested. It's a long way from that though. I've only just started the first draft.
