The photo has nothing to do with the discussion. Just another photo from the weekend.
We went shopping at our local IGA supermarket this morning. The store opens at 7am and we were there by 8am. There were already quite a number of cars in the carpark. The meat shelves were certainly depleted. They have their own butchers and we spoke to one of them. Yesterday, they kept back some mince to put out on the shelves this morning but once that was gone, there’d be no more until the next delivery sometime tomorrow.
There wasn’t much chicken on the shelves and there would be no more till Tuesday evening. Our preferred milk was sold out, there was no self-raising (all-purpose) flour and I got the last packet of oatmeal. The frozen vegetable section was pretty depleted too.
I picked up some extra meat and frozen vegetables in case supplies dry up even more. We are happy that we have plenty of food now if we should have to self-isolate. So that’s the situation in our town at the moment.

I hope so @JudyEv I think a lot of people are either rich and can afford to over stock or those who have credit cards are maxing them out. I won't be surprised if in a month people start trying to return all those toilet paper rolls .... or maybe they'll be on EBAY trying to sell them.

Is that a pygmy horse or a little pony in the picture? I have seen small horses in the Thailand zoo that they use to pull carts. There's also a small horse here for the same purpose.

This one would be a miniature horse. It is quite fine. There are also miniature ponies which are stockier. Then there are various breeds that are quite small such as Shetlands and Welsh Mountains and I guess your own native breed. This one is a Welsh Mountain. This breed is very pretty.

@JudyEv thank you for the added knowledge. Indeed Australia is a kingdom of horses.

@Alexandoy I think horse-related industries account for about a third of the workforce in Australia. This includes feed merchants and all associated industries.

I'm glad you were able to buy something. We are stocked up as well but wanted to buy another package of toilet paper. There's not a roll to be found anywhere! Stay safe and healthy!

@JudyEv They are emptying the racks before the items are even stocked. They take them right off the stocking racks.

Well that's good. I hope I can find paper towels. Food isn't really a conern here. No one is gonna starve. Toliet paper isn't needed at the momen either.

We don't need to store grocery supplies since the supermarket is just very near our home. We can just walk any time we need something

@JudyEv Maybe if there will be a case here in my town I'm sure people will panic buying but it's good we can ran easily here to stock up essentials if we need to lock ourselves up in the house for a month

That's good the supermarket is so close. Are you worried about the store running out of supplies?

Honestly we have enough meat to last us until Christmas because we bought a hind quarter of beef not too long ago. It pays to keep stocked up, and we timed that purchase just perfectly.
These times will teach us all to make do with what we have as you stated, the shelves are bare.

Be thankful you got that.
Some stores are completely wiped out!
We are fortunate to still have fully stocked shelves except for some paper products, antibacterial soap, and hand sanitizer.
Our freezer is jam packed and our pantry is loaded as usual.
Hopefully, this will last us a while.
Love the little horse!

Even if you didn't panic buy yourself the shelves can still be empty so you are more or less forced to buy more than you normally would.

No matter where we live I think we're all experiencing the same thing. Our supermarkets are having a hard time meeting the demands and people are buying way more than is necessary. We have enough on hand too thankfully

The problems are worldwide for sure. At least we can all understand how it is for others.

Yes, it seems everyone is stocking up as much as they can.
