We were racing down the Yadkin in a boat, the waves crashing in around us and nearly drowning us with their ferocity. I was terrified that we'd get there too late, that something would keep us from stopping the perpetrator. I look over at my friend who has their eyes on the river stretched out before us. Her jaw is set in determination as she pushes the boat as fast it will go. Another vessel tries to get our attention, but we don't stop. Soon we are at the banks of the river and running towards the hospital fifty feet beyond. I burst into the door and rush down the hall, slamming into the room. The nurse startles, the needle in his hand nearly falling to the ground before he catches it. "Come on, you have to wake up. You have to! They'll kill you otherwise!" These words come from the nurses mouth, a tear running down his face as he wills his patient to awaken. A few minutes later the killer bursts into the room, dressed in the blues of her profession. A sneer crosses her face as she sees her victim awaken, and she rushes to his side to try to smother him. The nurse and I push her back, slamming her against he far wall as the patient rouses, blinking in confusion.
