Coronavirus Calamity

I'm not sure how Coronavirus is affecting other parts of the world but it seems as if the UK have gone completely bonkers.
I always arrange for a weekly delivery from my preferred supermarket - Asda. I'm due to receive a delivery this morning but, having received my confirmatory email first thing this morning, I can't believe the number of things they haven't got. I keep hearing on the news about toilet roll binge buying so wasn't expecting great things there and, lo and behold, they have no toilet rolls whatsoever. They have no baked beans, no pickle, no tinned or frozen vegetables and, what surprises me most, they have no oat milk. I'm sure there can't be that many vegans in Norfolk as it's a farming county and, bearing in mind Asda sell four different brands of the stuff, it amazes me that they have none in stock.
I decided that I'd try and book a delivery for tomorrow or maybe next Tuesday but all slots are booked right through until the 1st of April. Our only options are, it seems, stay indoors and starve to death or go out and visit numerous supermarkets to try and get what we need.
I despise people who have stockpiled groceries. I'm a fairly hale and hearty 60 year old and Adam's quite fit and healthy too but I can't imagine what's going to happen to those people in their 70s and beyond.
On a happier note though, you will be pleased to hear that my cats have got all their food!

Many people seem to have gone really crazy with their buying up of just about everything. We got a bit extra of a few things. Those that clean out the shelves make it very difficult for everyone else and more or less force everyone to buy more. It's bad in our cities but not so bad where I live.

@CarolDM You too. I had somebody from Italy respond to a comment I put on Facebook this morning saying that I couldn't imagine what the people in that country were going through. She told me that it was important that the rest of the world take note of what had happened and we should all take precautions.

Our next door neighbour had bought some extra toilet rolls and very kindly gave us a pack so we're OK now for a couple of months ... provided we don't have tummy upsets!

Situation seems to have gone very bad at your end. This is probably because you are dependant on supplies from a big supermarket. The situation may not be as bad if you try to shop yourself on open market. Is the coronavirus scare that serious there?

It's nowhere near as bad as southern Europe and we really shouldn't have a problem here but we seem to have some complete idiots living here!

People are panicking and buying way too much stuff, more than they need. In my area, aside from toilet paper people seem to be buying out raw whole chicken. I wanted to get that for my mom and went to three different stores and they didn't have it in any of them.

We get our weekly delivery from Ocado - on a Friday. Last week we got all we wanted - including toilet rolls - so we'll have to see what happens this week.
I loved what I saw "finger written" on the back of a very dirty builder's van last week - "No toilet rolls kept in this van overnight".

Oh, that's sad. I hope new stocks will be coming or help will be provided by the government for you. Stay safe.
Here in our country, groceries and supermarkets are not closed. There had been panic buying since Thursday and people are now just staying home due to the total lockdown.
