Nine eleven and the Corona Virus

I was just pondering the differences and similarities between the attack on the World Trade Center and this pandemic.
After nine eleven, so many Americans flocked to churches and synagogues. They realized that they needed God's help and comfort. Sadly, the new search for spiritual strength didn't last long. But at the time, we all found comfort in being with family and friends, leaning on each other with the rest of the country.
This time it's more a global crisis and because of the contagious nature of the pandemic, we're being forced to become very solitary in an effort to slow down the virus. We can't gather at churches to fellowship and be strengthened by our collective worship.
We're forbidden to be in crowds, we look at each other with suspicion and wonder, "Does that person have the virus with no symptoms yet? Better do some social distancing in case."
The internet has already separated us from actual human contact. This virus will do even more.
Nine eleven had lasting effects on so many with grief for lost loved ones, health issues, national security measures, and this pandemic will do the same.
I don't know why this plague has happened. I don't know if it was man made or nature in rebellion. I don't know if this is a warning from a Holy God to show us we're suffering the consequences of disobedience to His laws and direction.
But I do know our world will not be the same when this plague is over. I pray we'll return to business and life in general, but I suspect there will be lasting effects that we'll deal with. I pray that our country, the USA will return to the founder and finisher of our faith, Jesus Christ.

I pray that all countries will return to normalcy soon.
This is so very difficult, everyone fending for themselves it seems.
I look at those wearing masks while they are out and I immediately distance myself from them.
That is wrong, but I am guilty of it just the same.

It is definitely going to have some lasting impact. BUT I also think that things will return to more normal than most people can see right now in the here and now. People have short attention spans. I would not buy too much into the thought that life will be forever altered. We are human beings, and life is too short, people are going to want to live as much as they did before all of this, and as soon as they feel they can, they will.
As for the churches, I don't think they are going to see any long term surge in attendance or more people turning to God. There may, in fact, be more people questioning what kind of God allows this sort of thing to happen in the first place. And no one will trust a Godly 'cleansing' of non-believers either. That thought might turn more people away than it attracts.

Our church has gone online for Sunday services so we can still hear the word of God. Of course it's not the same as actually being in church but I find it comforting seeing my pastor from the comfort of my couch. He has also had online daily prayers at noon.
I feel the same anxiety I did after 9 1 1 since I was living in a borough of NY when it happened.
I pray this will end soon

Everyone is making sacrifices and life as we know it will always carry the memories of this time.
