How do you decorate for the holidays?

I'm not christian, but my fiance grew up in a Christian family, so we decorate at my house for Christmas. This year so far we have up our artificial Christmas tree (it's so much better for the environment, and it has already paid for itself) with white lights, snowflakes, red bows, glass globes, plastic candy canes, and some random ornaments that i've made and purchased over the past few years.
We also have an artificial poinsettia garland pinned underneath the bar area with our stockings hanging there as well, since we have no fireplace mantle at our house. Soon I'll be putting up some candles and hanging a christmas wreath on the front door.
What about you? Do you decorate for a specific holiday? And what kind of decorations?

I don't have near what I'd like to have...I have a 6 ft. artificial tree decorated with all the special ornaments my kids and now my grandchildren have made over the years. I have some little snowmen and a log candle holder on top of my entertainment center. I have the grandchildren's stockings hung on a shelf on one wall. The outside of my house doesn't have much this year. I took my 2 sets of blue net lights (that I used to put on a bush but it got too big) and draped them on either side of the trellis in the yard. I have a string of blue lights tracing the stone steps leading down to the door, and I have a string attached to the awning above the front door. I just love blue lights outside...it's such a peaceful and calming color. Maybe next year I'll be able to add to the outdoor decor...not much room inside for anything else...but I like the way it looks. And the grandchildren love it.

We really don't have a single thing outside yet, and I probably won't put anything up except for the wreath, but I understand how you feel. I don't have a front yard this year, and the house is a rental, so I don't want to go poking holes in everything!
How fun with the blue lights though, I bet it looks very serene!

My family doesn't do much decorating, but I make it a habit to go to a friend's house and help their Christmas tree. It's really neat what some families have. My friend comes from a fairly long Catholic family line, and there are ornaments from each generation of the families, and there are some very beautiful ornaments. They have enough to completely cover a 6 ft. tree, but they have not bought any of it, because it has all been passed down in their family. I was very careful....

We aren't doing much this year because we are moving soon after the holiday. Normally we put up lights outside. We are going to put the tree up for the kids.

Artificial tree(definetly the way to go), wreath on the door, stockings for the kids, and candles in the windows(electric, blue bulb kind).
