Getting Creative

Do you find yourself having to get creative with your meals? When I went to the store yesterday they had plenty of toilet paper, but were low on food. So I had to take stock of what they had, and meal plan from there. Even the frozen food section was scarce. It seemed like the only thing available in the frozen food aisles was DiGuirno pizza (not sure I spelled that right).
I found some pita bread instead of tortillas. I haven't used pita bread in over a decade, but I like it.
Can you relate? I feel like everyone's had a moment in their life when groceries were low so they just took stock of what was in the cabinets, and came up with something creative.

Yes, we’ll have to get creative. I like pita bread too and haven’t had it in forever.

We are stocked at home, but I have told everyone in the house that we have to budget what we have - who knows what will happen in coming weeks. I haven't been particularly creative yet, but I have had to use up stuff that could be going bad and not just throw it out. Pita bread is awesome! I have a friend who cuts older pita into pieces and tosses them in the oven to turn them into chips.
I hope those people who hoarded all that toilet paper have their recipes for how they're going to prepare their rolls for their meals!

@much2say Hummus is very easy. I just recently read a hint that says to put the tahini and lemon juice in the food processor or blender first and blend it then add all the other stuff.

The Russian grocery close to my house was low on canned stuff but the rest of the stuff was plenty. Hope it stays that way. They did have a limit on eggs. Two cartons per customer due to high demand. Why is there all of a sudden a high demand on eggs?

The only item that we don't have enough of is sauerkraut; and we can live without that. We are stocked up and ready for the long haul...keep safe and healthy!

it is funny how this is playing out. Our grocer dumped all the bulk foods they had, the ones people had to scoop out of bins. There seems to be plenty of food on the shelves but no TP. The local wall-mart got a load of TP in, they put it behind the customer service counter and are allowing people to buy only one package at a time.
There will likely be some oddities like this for the foreseeable future.
To answer your question, we have indeed been creative. Downloading recipes from the net and trying new things. And making new combinations.

Weird...when I last went shopping, there were hardly any paper towels, no toilet paper whatsoever, but for the most part there was food.

All the frozen pizza's were gone from the freezer case, and almost all frozen dinners as well...just some Birdseye skillet type meals.

It's pretty much but it miss here too when going to the grocery store. Meat, bread and milk is scarce now so I'm trying to come up with alternatives to our typical meat meals.
I haven't had pita bread in awhile but they are good for stuffing with sandwich stuff.

That's probably the best way to meal plan - around what is available.
So far, I've been lucky in getting what I need. I've seen the sparse shelves. With eating healthy, one thing I can count on is the healthy food will still be there. Everyone is into boxed or canned dinners and snacks.

Nope. Same foods as usual here, besides meats.

One has to practically ration food these days.

Since Wednesday night I have been making three meals a day for seven to nine people. My sister actually keeps giving me food, sometimes she is just tired of it, like a huge box of salad greens. We ate pretty well. I tend to just throw things together, but usually they are good. I found myself with lots of leftovers that will just feed us two now that the company is gone.

We are getting a lot of stories of panic buying from other countries.... First around toilet paper and now with food items. We too got some people doing that but then our PM appealed. We are assured that we will have enough essential and should not panic buy. People have responded well to that.
