What did you have for breakfast today?

When I went to Safeway yesterday, there was no toilet paper or paper towel (I have some here), but there was plenty of food. Part of what I bought was bacon, eggs, and a really fresh loaf of sourdough bread (a big part of California culinary culture). I made a classic Midwestern breakfast, eggs, bacon and toast, and am doing the same today! One of the things I love about bacon is how it makes my house smell. It smells like a home. What did you have for breakfast today? Is eggs, bacon and toast on your "list"?

Breakfast is so long ago! I had *thinks hard* ryvitas with fish in tomato sauce. 'Cause I've checked my cupboards and found out that I don't need that many cans of fish in my hoard, so I'll have the same for breakfast tomorrow.

@TheHorse It's a brand, my British friends always call it ryvitas no matter what brand of "knekkebrød" they eat. Rectangular, hard, flat bread. Lasts for ages. I've got canned mackerel.

The only canned fish I have here is tuna. What is ryvitas?

Nice and they say us single folk do not know how to make a good breakfast. Its the best because how we would want it. People so get in the way of themselves sometimes.

Heh. I'm glad to have the time right now to be creative with breakfast. If I had some green pepper and onion here (easy to remedy), maybe I'd make an omelette. I have plenty of cheese here.

@LindaOHio Yep. It's a healthy food. I think I just got tired of it. What I should get back into (except that it's pretty cool outside) is smoothies with yogurt, banana, ice, and ice cream. Yummy!

No eggs, I am keeping the eggs to make noodles or cakes, we had toasted bread and jam. Until I have flour I can make bread.

We eat a lot of bacon, eggs, and toast. My husband has to have the gluten free bread for his toast and I usually don't eat any bread at all. This morning we had potato cakes from left over potatoes, bacon and a fried egg. I love sourdough bread, but seldom buy it.

@TheHorse I'm not sure what latkes are. I use left over cold mashed potatoes to roll into flattened balls, then press both sides into salt and peppered flour and fry in hot oil until browned and crispy.

Sounds good to me. What did you do with the potatoes to turn them into potato cakes? Are potato cakes like latkes?

Glad you found everything you were looking for. All of the items you mentioned are pretty scarce still around here. As for what I had for breakfast, I never eat it (at least not at breakfast time), so I had nothing.

I heard a research scientist (of some sort) say that your first meal of the day "sets your metabolism up" for the rest of the day. So even if it's at 1 PM, it still counts as "breakfast" (breaking the fast). But it was a quick radio report so I didn't capture many details.

@TheHorse Hmm. Interesting. I have always been skinny. Not sure if that was where that report was going, to say maybe part of obesity might be a result of not eating breakfast. Not sure WHY I don't necessarily eat breakfast honestly. Although I don't feel all too hungry in the morning.

Eggs, bacon, and toast are always great for breakfast, definitely. For some reasons I also like to wash them all down with pineapple juice. Try it, if you haven't already. I am getting hungry just writing about it, LOL.
