Do you think that you are a good parent?

I think I am both. I think everyone who is a parent is both good and bad. I also think that the word "bad" is not a good word to use to describe a type of parent. Inexperienced may be a better word. After all, kids don't come with instructions. I feel I am a good parent because I listen to my kids. We talk about everything and not only am I their parent but I am also their friend. There are a number of times where my kids (girl and boy - both teens) would choose to stay home with me rather than go out because we truly enjoy hanging out together. I am a young Mom though. I am 36. My oldest is 17. I have never hit my kids - there's no point to it. It doesn't solve any issues and it only causes them to be afraid of the one person they should be the most comfortable with. I know though that there are many things I could have done differently in my life that would have been better. I have been a single Mom up until 5 years ago and I know the choices I made of whom I brought into their lives in that time could have been better (for all of us). Bottom line, if you children smile when the talk about the memories they have then you are a good parent. Even if it's one memory - you have done something good in that childs life that they will cherish. Anyway - there is really no set "good or bad" parents. It's all in what you know and how you choose to share it with your children.

You're right. I used insufficient wording. It is really hard to define what a good or bad parent is or is not. It sounds though that you have a pretty good handle on being a 'good' mom! And yes, I agree with you that it is very important to bring only the right people into your children's lives.
